I'm curious because I'd rather be on the safe side and not be stranded.
It seems when the power gets low, the headlights seem dimmer. But that's just my theory.
Thanks!

I recommend you drive to your local auto parts store or battery service center and have a free battery and charging system check done on your car. If your battery is over 5 years old, I recommend you have them install a new one while your there. Winter's coming, at least in these here parts!

The best thing to do is get a free check at a parts store.

One clue (not 100% accurate) for differentiating between an alternator and a battery is...If the lights are always dim the battery may not be holding charge well. If the lights get brighter as the engine revs up and dim as it idles it might be that your alternator is getting weak. The is test is far from perfect but can sometimes provide a clue.

Headlights dimming could more likely be a problem with your alternator? Your battery should recharge whilst you are driving. My battery went flat, but it just meant that one morning, without warning, my car wouldn't start and the kids were late for school :-s
