First off, relax because some women can not wear tampons.
Right now, try using a little KY jelly, or another lubricant, to help make things easier. Oh, and the tampon gets inserted into your vagina. Make sure you relax when you try to insert the tampon, because if your muscles contract and tighten because you're tense this can stop you in your tracks too.
If after these two things you are still having a problem and you are still wanting to use tampons, then you should make an appointment with your doctor and discuss the matter will him/her. There may be a physical reason.

hehe lol i got my period too not long ago and i started wearing tampons right away when u buy 'em buy the smallest ones they're like the size of a pinkie and u cant really put it up the wrong hole lol they come with instructions so read read u insert them 45 degrees of ur body and u insert the plastic until fingers touch body and push the aplicator in.........if u cant get it in its probably too big =)
here is more spesific:
Relax! Try not to worry about inserting the tampon right the first time. If you are tense it will make insertion harder.
The best time to practice inserting a tampon is during the heavy part of your period. The tampon should glide inside your vagina easily without any discomfort.
Decide if you prefer to insert the tampon standing or sitting. If sitting is your preference, sit on the toilet. If you want to try standing, putting one foot on the bathtub helps.
Hold the tampon applicator in your right hand if you are right-handed, or left if left-handed.Use your thumb and middle finger to hold the bottom of the larger, outer tube.
Point the tip of the applicator toward your vagina, facing slightly towards the back. The smaller tube should be pointed away from your body.
Use your other hand to open your vagina.
Place the tip of the applicator at the opening of your vagina.
Gently push the smaller end of the applicator in until it is completely inside the larger outer tube. This pushes the tampon into your vagina and out of the tube.
With your thumb and middle finger still on the outer tube, release the smaller tube and let the strings dangle freely.
Gently pull the two tubes out together.
Dispose of the applicator according to the manufactuer's instructions.
When you are ready to remove the tampon, gently pull the withdrawl strings down and forward. The used tampon may be flushed down the toilet.
Tips:
Lubricating the rounded end of the tampon with a water-based lubricant such as K-Y Jelly can make insertion easier the first few times. Don't use petroleum jelly.
Always read the manufactuer's instructions throughly before using any type of tampon.
If the tampon feels uncomfortable it is probably not inserted far enough into your vagina. Try again with a new tampon.

Well look up a picture of a vagina if you must on the internet. Steer clear of porn, but that is where you insert the tampon. Examine to see what the appropriate sized tampon is for you. Just relax, pull down the bottom stick of the tampon so it looks like an applicator should for a shot or something. Stick the applicator tip as far in as possible. The higher up the better, just to the point that you won't feel it, then press in the bottom stick back to where it was so that it pushes the tapon out from the applicator. Pushing hard will hurt, but this is normal to hurt a little at first. Plastic applicators should slide right in. Just look for instructions in the teen boxes and little pictures are in the instructions to show you how it works. It shouldn't be seriously painful. I wish I where there to help you, because I had the same troubles, but if this doesn't help with what I have told you, then mothers are there to explain that. If you are a grown woman who has never used a tampon, then no worries, no one is going to judge you if you buy the tampax tampons for teens, but if you need the instructions and the various sizes then do it for the welfare of yourself! You will feel better when you research it a little more, if you don't have it figured out. Good luck!

Lots of girls have trouble with this at first. Use tampons with applicators- they're much easier, safer, and more comfortable to use.
Use a mirror to view the area. Separate the folds of skin in the middle; the hole you want is usually hidden by them. If you look in between the folds at the back part of this area (in the direction of your butt), you should be able to see the hole. Relax your muscles and put the applicator in at a slight angle toward your back, not straight up & down. (You need to relax or your vaginal muscles could prevent you from putting the tampon in.) Push the applicator in far enough so your fingers touch your skin. Then push the tampon in as far as it will go, till you feel it hit a "wall" inside. It's supposed to sit right up next to your cervix so it catches everything that comes out of the uterus. When you remove the applicator, you shouldn't be able to feel the tampon in there. If you do feel it, it's probably not in far enough. This procedure normally does not hurt if you're relaxed- even in the beginning- but it will feel different to you at first.
Make sure the string is dangling outside of the vagina. You need that! Good luck.

ok this is gonna sound really gross but it helps if you know your body. so what i would so is feel around down there with your finger. when you come to the hole that is wet thats your vaginal opening. try inserting your finger so you can see wich way to tilt the tampon when you insert it. you cant try to insert it straight up or straight back; youhave to put it at a 45 degree angle tilted towards your back. the more familiar you are with your body the easier this is to do though

Ignore all the mean people. You insert it into the middle hole. Also it comes with instructions inside that has a diagram on it.
Also here's a website to help you understand how to insert it and the risks with TSS.

The box should come with instructions and drawings showing you exactly how to insert one. Which hole?? You do know which one is your vagina right? That's where your aiming for.

It goes into the vagina. Think about it's purpose. That will help you remember which hole!
Read the directions that come in the box. There are pictures/diagrams and helpful hints.
