As anyone can plainly see from most of the answers here, it certainly isn't because of our education system. We are the greatest country in the world because we are made up of the descendants of millions of people who were dissatisfied with life in all of the other countries of the world. They were dissatisfied with their financial lot, repressive governments, lack of religious freedom, and societies that frowned upon the individual freedom of each person to determine their own course in life and pursue it to the best of their ability. In the course of a mere 230+ years we have proven to the world that absolutely anyone can become successful if they are willing to work hard enough and be self reliant and if the government will get out of their way and let them reach their full potential.

It IS the greatest country in the world. We have so many priveldges and opportunities in America. Due in large part to its people. We genuinely care about our citizens and we do anything to help those in need in our country and throughout the world. Every country thinks they are the best, and I am a proud American citizen so I think we are the best. We were founded on the basis of ONE nation under GOD..and I think that speaks very highly of us too.

You think this is not a great countr?.
First of all you just had the freedom to say that it isn't. Try that in Cuba, North Korea, or other countries where you would be denied that right.
I know you weren't talkng about the landscape because it truly is a beautiful country.
You are talking about our people by saying they are not great.
Many came here from places where you could not even imagine, and we opened our arms.
Our people are as diverse as this country. We all come from many different backgrounds and beliefs, but pal when the chips are down we are there for our fellow man. We are America!
Remember Pearl Harbor, 9/11, Katrina? We did not care what ideology these people believed in. As true Americans, we rolled up our sleeves and we were there.
So either stop you BS, or go back where you came from. This is not just any country, We the people ARE America!

What other countries afford the freedoms that America provides?. You can be a poor person living in a shack in some third world country, come to America, and make it.

America is the only country in the world that thinks America is the greatest country in the world.
But of course...that is depending on how you define the term "greatest" of course.

I didn't write the following - but it states just about everything that makes America great.
"I think America is great because we have the freedom to pick religions and what church to go to. America offers a lot churches and religions. That gives me a lot to choose from. I mean comparing to other countries they don’t always allow you to show what religion you belong to but deep in your heart you can do what you want.
America has a lot of security like the police or the FBI that protect our families or loved ones. There are a lot of insurance companies to help pay for house accidents, car accidents, and heath problems. When you have insurance and something happens there they are helping you fight your problem.
When you want to move you can. When you want a different job there it is. When you want to get educated there’s that special collage. That is what I mean by freedom.
If you compare our transportation to other countries there is a big difference. We have paved roads they have gravel roads. We mostly have nice cars they have rust buckets no offence). Are roads even get re-tarred. Even our gravel roads get graded. Plus we have so many signs to help give directions.
Even though we have a president he is not there to control us. He helps with tragedies, tells the governors what to tell the schools what to teach the children. President Bush also gets lots of security. That means a lot to me because if h got killed our country would fall a part. This is what makes America great."

I think America is a great country because we have virtually unlimited opportunities regardless of our background. We have access to the best of almost everything. We are free to do basically whatever we want. We have a virtually unlimited supply of everything we could want.
Generally speaking, our freedoms and opportunities are what make the US great. Although I do think most of us take these things for granted and that limits our greatness.

Americans feel America is the greatest country on earth. French feel France is the greatest country on earth. I feel Ukraine is the greatest country on earth, because I'm Ukrainian. It's patriotism, and everyone should be proud of their contry, but respect other people's countries too.

I think that is an understatement. Many countries may not have the economic status, but if you look at their way of life, its much simpler than america, like crime rates for example. Things like racism and stuff are minimal in many countries. America has many problems that we overlook because we're so use to it like debt.
