Maybe I don't get it--but unless one is nasty & mean, why would one get a thumbs down for giving someone an answer. Do trolls do this kind of thing? It's almost like someone is giving you the finger.

You guys are great, so many good answers. I'm going to put it to a vote(never done that). Too many to choose from--Thanks!

I give thumbs down if the answer is wrong or stupid...it's not cos I'm mean, well, I don't think so anyway. Why does it bother you that someone has an opinion?

The thumbs up and thumbs down are just a way for the readers to express thier opinions about the answers of others. It is to show whether or not they agree or disagree. That is what makes the world go around. Everyone cannot be the same. It is nothing like giving the finger and it is often not trolls. Just the opinions of others on the site.

I always give a thumbs down, when someone says something
rude or hurtful to the asker. I can't stand rude or disgusting
behavior. Even written bad behavior.
I have given a thumbs down to responses that are way off
track, or aren't in keeping to the question by a mile.Espec-
ially when it's obvious they only want points so any answer
will do. But mostly, I don't vote, unless I really like the answer that answers the question informatively. But I think that we all do that anyway.

I agree, if someone's mean or nasty, then thumbs down is ok. We've been having someone give them on every answer, no matter how good the answer was. It's sad that their life is so empty, the only joy they get is trying to upset other people. If I disagree with an answer, I answer the question with what I think is right, but I don't give a thumbs down. I wish they'd do away with the thumbs down myself. We just have to overlook it and know that the person doing this isn't worth getting upset over.

Interesting huh.
Sadly, I, too really thought this YA would offer a good area for mental stimulation and an exchange of ideas and thoughts and expressions free of all that, but you can't change these things in people. They're either tolerant of others or they're not.

It helps me understand better just why our country is so divided in its philosophies these days. So many tout freedom of speech until somebody up and disagrees with their point of view. Then it's it's a royal thumbs up!!! Rasberry to you.

I still move through the entire area here and offer my honest response, and I try to say things as nicely as I can, but the rest is somebody else's issues. So I really don't give a hoot about thumbs downs. Though I really do try to give positive responses as much as I can.
Thanks for the question. It deserves responses.

Yes, it is Lazy trolls who do this..I ignore thumbs up to my questions (only means someone agrees with me) and thumbs down (only means that someone either disagrees with me or disagrees with life in general..no more, no less). BUT if you see a remark with lots of thumbs down, it means the general population disapproves of what has been said..the answer was rude, or just nasty and a lot of thumbs down means the crowd doesn't appreciate that kind of language or approach. Love and peace, Goldwing

I give a thumbs down if I know the answer is wrong, generally something about the Internet or computers that I know the correct answer to, or if an answer is especially dumb.

Well I must be doing something right, getting a lot of thumbs down, guess that happens when you are dealing with a multiple personality. :-) Where are those darn emoticons?

The way I see it if you start getting thumbs down it means the troll(s) had identified you as NOT on her side. Just check and see who DOESNT have them. Course I have seen the troll starring questions just to try and cover her tracks, but she isnt fooling as many people as she used to.

Its not real hard to figure it out.

Don't get discouraged by the thumbs-down. Not everyone is going to like what you have to say here on Yahoo Answers. I've received my share of them, that's for sure. Please continue to offer your answers to interesting questions. What a boring world this would be if we all agreed on every issue.

Don't fret. They do come out from under their rock once in awhile...they will scroll through every question and give thumbs down to every answer.

They have no life - and are very young and immature. They have nothing to add to the conversation and have nothing but time on their hands, being unable to read, think or be creative....so they fly through with the thumbs down.
