The currency was the Pound, which was divided into 20 shillings. A shilling was divided into 12 pence (or pennies)

To name just a few, the French louis d'or, livre and franc; the Dutch gulden, the German thaler, the English pound and guinea, the Italian florin, the Spanish real, the Russian ruble, etc. Most of these had smaller denominations - the franc, denier and sous, for example.
