They got it right..Pheromones! These are chemicals emitted by animals (including humans) which pulls an attraction to the opposite sex.
Generally, pheromones serve as a form of communication with other members of the species. Though commonly associated with sexual attraction and reproduction, pheromones can also be used to signal danger, to mark trails, or to identify food sources.

Well, animals emit different kinds of stuff to attract mates. The most common of them all would be the sounds. Different types of animals emit sound as a source of propagation for courtship.
The other would be the release of chemicals under courtship condition. Animals like Bees, Hornets etc.. release a chemical know as Pheromone to attract mates.
Hope I helped

pheromones - a special chemical that is emitted into the air to attract mates.
Moths are a good example - the females emit pheromones that the males can detect with their feathery antennae - they can find the female using the pheromones because the antennae are so sensitive to the chemicals.

Scent, instinct, vision? How do we tell if someone is male or female? We can see it! Well, not always LOL... Same for cats, their minds work differently than ours i guess. We don't know the thought process of an animal so it's really hard to say how they can tell the difference, but i'd put it down to scent and instinct

Pheromones, unless they are the human male trying to attract a female. Money works then.
