Some gases like carbon dioxide, methane, water vapour, ozone, nitrous oxide and chlorofluoro carbons which absorb IR radiations are called greenhouse gases.
Among these, the two major greenhouse gases are water vapour and carbon dioxide. They contribute about 36 percent and 12 percent(approximately only) to the greenhouse effect.Lesser green house gases include ozone, methane, nitrogen oxides and chlorofluorocarbon.
Some of them occur in nature. They are water vapour, carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide. The other gases are man-made.

Greenhouse gases are components of the atmosphere that contribute to the greenhouse effect. The natural component of the greenhouse effect is necessary for Earth to be habitable;[1] in its absence, the mean temperature of the earth would be about -19 °C (-2 °F, 254°K) rather than the present mean temperature of about 15 °C (59 °F,288°K)[2]. Some greenhouse gases occur naturally in the atmosphere, while others result from human activities such as burning of fossil fuels such as coal.[3] Greenhouse gases include water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and ozone.
