The polls are voted on by the Associated Press and the coaches. The AP poll is made up by sports analyst who cover college football. A first place vote is worth 25 points and a 25th place is worth 1 vote, then they add the points up and that is the final rankings.

Strength of schedule is a factor. If you dont play power house teams you could be undefeated and still out ranked by another team.
