This was yesterday that I was outside I was playing with a local bat flying around so I grabbed it not thinking that they had teeth because they only eat soft insects so when I grabbed the lil feller it bit the crap out of my hand and scratched me while flying away. I hear that bats carry rabies possibly, is this a life threatening disorder? How can I tell if I have rabies? Do I foam from the mouth like dogs???? Symptoms?!?!!

RUN to the emergency room.

NOW!!!

You should have gone yesterday. At least called a doctor!

Rabies is fatal.
100% fatal.
If you get symptoms, you die a slow, lingering, painful death.

If you don't have the bat to have tested, you need to start preventative treatment.

RIGHT NOW!!!

I hope this is a joke.

Hold on, I'm getting you links.
Read this, I think you may be in deep trouble!!!

I copied this from the same site:
Signs and Symptoms
The first symptoms of rabies may be nonspecific flu-like signs — malaise, fever, or headache, which may last for days. There may be discomfort or paresthesia (numbness) at the site of exposure (bite), progressing within days to symptoms of cerebral dysfunction, anxiety, confusion, agitation, progressing to delirium, abnormal behavior, hallucinations, and insomnia. The acute period of disease typically ends after 2 to 10 days (6). Once clinical signs of rabies appear, the disease is nearly always fatal, and treatment is typically supportive. Disease prevention is entirely prophylactic and includes both passive antibody (immune globulin) and vaccine. Non-lethal exceptions are extremely rare. To date only six documented cases of human survival from clinical rabies have been reported and each included a history of either pre- or postexposure prophylaxis.

That was an unwise thing to do..never touch a bat with your bare hands as they will defend themselves. You MUST go to a doctor and go through a series of rabies vaccinations. There is a chance the bat did not have rabies..but there is NO way for you to know this. If the bat was rabid..by the time you would show signs of the disease..it would be too late for treatment. Rabies is fatal..you NEED to go to a doctor ASAP to start your vaccinations.

Only one person has ever survived a rabies infection and she was in a coma for 3 months, had to be retrained to walk and talk again. All other people who contracted rabies have died from it.

Get to the hospital and explain what happened, if you're lucky it's not too late to get the shots for it.

That was immensly stupid thing to do, bats are known rabies carriers along with being excellent bug control creatures. Don't take a chance, just go get yourself the shot asap.

Yes bats do carry rabies, which is almost 100% fatal once you start showing symptoms (I believe there was 1 person who survived not to long ago but she has been the only one is history and still has neuromuscular complications) You need to go to the doctor or hospital. You will have to go through the process of getting the post bite rabies shots. Since they don't have the animal to test to see if it was rabid you have to proceed like it was and go through a series of shots.

Unless you are an insect, there would be no reason for the local bats to bite you. [I toyed with the idea of mentioning fruit bats, but I won't.] Vampire bats sometimes bite toes but they are tropical or, rarely, subtropical. The local bats are insectivorous and they spend the winter in nice, comfortable caves in dormancy, sort of a semi-hibernation. BTW, vampire bats frequently are not felt by the person they bite if that person is sleeping. Along with anticoagulant, they have analgesic in their saliva.
