I went to the dermatologist for my acne...the doctor perscribed me Dyacin (an ANTIBIOTIC in the family of the Myinocin medicine) I TOLD THE DOCTOR that i am currently taking ORTHO TRI CYCLEN LO birth control medication (have been on it for 2 years)....i told her i was sexually active and she told me that A.) birth control isnt 100% anyway, and B) DONT WORRY ABOUT IT....as long as i take my birth control pill everyday like I usually do, i will be all set.

So my boyfriend and I have been "messing around" not worrying, because I already talked to my doctor, but lately (its been a week since we last had sex) Im feeling sick to my stomach and my boobs are hurting me.........I dont want to worry my boyfriend, do you think its just a coincedence that im having these symptoms???? How soon after concieving do you start to feel sick and boobs hurting????

Minocycline (branded as Dyacin) can lessen the effectiveness of BC. But it sounds like you are feeling some of its side effects such as upset stomach. Sounds like coincidence to me. But of course to be safe for the duration of taking the antibiotics you might want to use a backup method in addition to your pills when having sex.

Your doctor told you that? Any doctor has always told me (the few times I had to mix the pill and an antibiotic), that you should not count on the pill that month, and use a back up method as well.

Maybe mynocin is different...but other antibiotics can and do decrease the effectiveness of the pill.

You can start with symptoms within even a week or so after becoming pregnant...this is why many women think they're pregnant even before missing a period.

Antibiotics can affect your birth control. Everytime I went in to pick up an antibiotic , the pharmacist is required to tell you that it can affect your birth control. Granted I never got pregnant while I was on birth control and antibiotics, but it was always a possibility. I never had any symptoms of being pregnant and Im now 35 weeks, so I cant tell you how soon after conceiving, but the only way to know for sure is a test but you'll have to wait til atleast 3-5 days before your period is due for it to be accurate. good luck.

You didn't mention a missed period, so, my suggestion is take an EPT just for peace of mind. Also, call your doctor for any further questions about drug interactions. Many antibiotics can cause stomach discomfort that may mimic morning sickness. Then again, it could just be psychosomatic and you are having symptoms brought on by fear.

It doesnt sound like you could be pregnat if you have 2 weeks left before your period. test to give you piece of mind. If you dont get your period when you should test again.
As for what the doc said, I have always been told to use a backup method when I was on antibiotics.
Good luck.

I got pregnant whilst on the pill and anti biotics, I had a molar pregnancy, when the egg carrys no information and forms a tumour when it is fertalised. Be careful and use condoms whilst on anti biotics.

I think you should report your doctor for such uncaring concern. I would take a pregnancy test and find a new doctor. In the meantime, use a condom.
