If you are not a fan of exercise you are pretty much doomed to progressively gain weight, so your only real choice is to alter your attitude towards it. Though we are what we eat, we are even more what we don't do. Calorie intakes in 1900 and 1950 were on average higher than now. The difference was that most people expended more energy then than we do now. A recent University of California study showed that 2 in every 3 dieters who do do not exercise will eventually gain weight.

The easiest way I can think of is keeping track of the amount of calories consumed by recording the amount of calories consumed each day. After some time, this will give you an idea of how many calories you consume per day. Cut the number of calories consumed by 10 or 15 percent. You can buy a food calculator to help you keep track of the calories, fat, and carbohydrates you eat.
Workouts can burn calories too, but its not the easiest way.
The food nutrition content is listed on the packages.
