The direction your head faces while sleeping has a strong effect on your physical and mental well-being. Head placement refers to the direction the top of your head points when lying down.
Art of Sleeping
We are advised to avoid sleeping with our head to the north or west.
We all know that our planet has a magnetic pole stretched from north to south with the positive pole at the north and the negative pole at the south. Now, health scientists tell us that we too have a similar magnetic stretch with the positive pole at the head and the negative one at the feet.
It is common knowledge that like poles repel and unlike poles attract not only scientific but also in social spheres. When we lay our heads on the north side, the two positive sides repel each other and there is a struggle between the two.
Since the earth has a greater magnetic force, we are always the losers, and rise in the morning with headache or heaviness.

. But when we lay our heads in the southern direction, there is mutual attraction and we wake up fit, fresh and free, unless afflicted by some illness.
We also know that our planet revolves itself from west to east, and sun's magnetic field enters earth from east side. This magnetic force enters our head if we lie with head on the east and exits through feet, promoting cool heads and warm feet as per the laws of magnetism and electricity. When the head is laid towards the west, cool feet and hot head -- result -- an unpleasant start for morning.
Now we may realize why the ancient people said, that our intellect improves by east facing head or house, and life lengthens with the head facing south.
North brings disease and west dulls the brain. They gave us a few more healing hints for a healthy sleep. Never lie on one side for long. Keep changing.

Gentleman, 80% of the time when I sleep my head faces south and my face is to the East.I generally sleep on my stomach with my head facing one way or the other,East or West.Very rarely west. Now I have a very severely deviated septum. This comes from boxing formly and street fighting. The doctor who removed all the cartiledge from my nostrils in 1974 said I had the worst deviated septum he has ever seen.Anyway for seven years I could not breathe from my left nostril. As distasteful as this sounds I can place my index finger completely into either nostril now. When I take a breath I can feel it immediately at the back of my throat.Well even now I cannot breath out of both nostrils simultaneously.Recently I visited an ears ,nose ,and throat doctor who informed me this was normal. He also told me that when you are sleeping the nostril that is on top will be the one you breath from. For example my head is south and my face is east.My feet are to the north. My back is west.I am breathing from the top nostril. That would be my left nostril. Now if I turn and face west I breath from from the right nostril. He informed me this was due to gravity. In other words my head is always to the south and my feet are north. What changes is the direction of my face.Facing east I breath from the left nostril, facing west I breath from the right nostril but never both at the same time.He said this was normal. When standing I notice that I can breathe better from one nostril or the other but then my head is usually cocked one way or the other as imperceptible as it may seem.Again I thank you for your insights Gentleman.I hope you give me the time to get to all of your questions.I do read them all even if they are resolved by the time I can get to them.

A very good post on an important aspect of our spiritual life, only you actually got it backwards. The geographic North of Earth is in actuality the magnetic South. But I don't blame you. It is the result of all the hidden lies and confusion emanating from western scientific conventions that is meant to discredit the ancient wisdom ways and lead the innocent astray. One must always sleep with head in direction of North or East. West is preferable direction only for young couples during mating process but then afterwards it is advisable to get back to sleeping with head towards N or E during normal times. South is not preferable direction under any circumstances in my opinion. Trust me, I have researched this truth thoroughly and have reached this firm conclusion. You don't have to take my word for it instead you can also verify for yourselves by sleeping in each of these directions for a few weeks at a time and keeping daily detailed notes. All the best!

Since I started to sleep with my head towards north-west and feet facing east I became the most positive person I know, I started doing well at school and stopped having nightmares and wake up at night so I don't think this is very true

Well I wont have my head in the east side cos if I do that my feet would be pointing westwards, and towards some Gopuram thats facing east. I'd rather have my head in the west. I wouldn't keep my head on the south either for known reasons. I'd stick to west or north.

hi gentleman_smiling...what you said is really deep...i've never thought how my positioning affects my activities when i wake up in the morning....
i usually start sleeping lying down flat on the bed, with a towel over my head ( to keep any light and noise out because i'm a light sleeper)....but during the course of the night, i move sideways, then on my stomach then sideways again, then flat on my back....
i guess with all the movements going on, no wonder i wake up dizzy...lol...any suggestions as to how i can stay in place in the correct direction in my sleep? so that i can maximize my sleep and wake up really refreshed? thanks so much for the information....you're a big help....as always...

Star. Nice information given. The magnetic therapy works on the magnet in us rather the x% of iron.
As for me I follow the age old belief that while sleeping avoid your feet from pointing towards the East as the Sun rises from there & in some way it conveys disrespect. It can be that what u say is the real reason behind this story. As majority of stories/ granny tales told down the generations always have a practical reason/logic behind them but for the layman to believe & practice we ourselves concocted the stories since they becamea source of interest & served the cause equally well.
Jeeezzzzzzz u r one frnd. of mine who gets me going....I forget everything & just focus on the topic of discourse. I like it. Thanks & better not stop.

I sleep facing the West because it is where humans have always yearned to head to throughout civilization. I'm at UCSB, and I also face the ocean!
