I finally got my letter in the mail stating my acceptance for pregnancy medicaid. I can't wait any longer to see a doctor, but it says my "eligability" doesn't start til the first of November. Does this mean I can't see a dr. til then, or I just won't get my card til then? Will I get reimbursed if I go now?

P.S. - I live in Florida, and I've visited the offices here of DCF in order to try and get this done faster. To my amazement, there are NO employees working for DCF in their offices! Apparently they got rid of individual caseworkers, and the only way you can contact an actual person in by phone... a "customer call center" which leaves you on hold for 45mins + at times. There are no bodies at the office, only phones which direct you to this number and fax machines in order to send them information. It's RIDICULOUS!

To Melanie J - what do you suggest I do? I was raped and am having my child instead of an abortion. Maybe you should know all the facts before jumping to conclusions. This wasn't exactly a PLANNED pregnancy.

To 3-28-08 - thanks very much for your words. I generally don't let what people say get to me and I won't bother letting it change my mind or what I have to do. A baby is a gift, not a curse, and regardless how they came to be I will treasure them. (Good luck on your own pregnancy, if your screename is an indicator of your due date :)! )

It depends on where you live. In my state Medicaid will pay claims retroactively from when you filed, up to 3 months prior.

Try calling the number and putting it on speakerphone while you are on hold. Then just do housework or whatever else you want to do until someone picks up, then you won't be wasting time.

Thanks for choosing life for your child. I'm truly sorry you had to go through that experience and hope God gives you healing and that you will find it in your heart (if you haven't already) to forgive the man.

When I applied for madicaid they said I would most likely get it. So she gave me a number to use until I got my card. It was kind of like a temporary card. Maybe you could try to get in touch with someone and see.

And, yes, they paid past bills for me once my card was in. It was a bill pertaining to the pregnancy.

You should def go now and at least get checked out and get all of the info you need. You also need to start prenatals if you havent already.

Good luck with your pregnancy!

**EDIT** To MJ...not everyone can plan and/or prevent every pregnancy.

And PS...all my info was from NC!

I have medicaid myself for my pregancy and I am in NC. As far as I know, if the medicaid card states the first of november, only services from that day forward will be paid for by medicaid. Unless you don't mind getting a bill that medicaid possibly wouldn't cover. Now when I called my doctors office to make the initial very first appt., it was almost a month away anyway. I would go ahead and find the ob/gyn you would like, call to see how soon i could get an appt. but make sure that it is no sooner than the 1st of november. Then try to see if you can get in contact with someone with social services to confirm if you can't see a doctor before the 1st and if you can you just call the doctor's office and see if they can see you sooner.

SEEKER...DO NOT LET ONE OR MANY IGNORANT PEOPLE DISCOURAGE YOU IN ANYWAY. YOU WILL ALWAYS FIND THAT YOU WILL HAVE MORE SUPPORT THAN FOOLISHNESS LIKE THAT. JUST LEARN TO TAKE THE GOOD WITH THE BAD. HOWEVER, MY SYMPATHY GOES OUT TO YOU FOR WHAT SOME IDIOT DID TO YOU, BUT I COMMEND YOU ON BEING A STRONG ENOUGH WOMAN TO KEEP THIS CHILD. WE NEED MORE WOMEN LIKE YOU AND LESS WOMEN WHO ARE MORE WILLING TO PERSECUTE THAN SUPPORT. I DON'T KNOW YOU BUT I CARE FOR YOU AND YOUR UNBORN CHILD IN CHRIST. PLEASE TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF AND CONTINUE STRIVING, YOU'LL DO JUST FINE. YOU'LL BE IN MY PRAYERS.

TO MELANIE J...
I understand you have your own opinion on the matter but you don't know everyone's circumstance or their beliefs. Anyone who is pregnant and on medicaid is having an unwanted child? Who are you? Not everyone that is on medicaid is just sitting at home making babies for the government and everyone to take care of them. Don't judge someone unless you yourself are open to be judged.

Be blessed!

In some states your coverage usually back-dates but up to as much as 90 days. You should call and ask them exactly how far they back pay where you live. They always tell you you're only eligible as of a certain date, but they almost always pay for any medical expenses for the pregnancy if within a certain time frame prior to your application.
