He enjoys imense popularity in parts of the R party, and in parts of the country. I think his party also views it as a strength that he appeals to fiscal conservatives and social moderates at the same time. that is something many Rs cant do, and makes him capable of, at least on paper, appealing to a large group including many outside of his party. That aproach, plus his status as a well known, long time, public figure, plus his charisma, and his ability to draw on 9/11 (yes, it still seems to work for many voters) makes him a viable candidate.
You are absolutely correct that his political record does not suggest he is ready for such responsibility. Also his personal infidelity doesn't speak well for his trustworthy-reputation. However, he would not be the first to have strikes like that against him and win.
Personally, i think his lack of experience at the federal level should be considered by voters, especially those that make similar claims about a few of the Ds candidates. Also we should wonder if its for the best to be looking, again, at candidates who only have experience in the Executive branch. They have in the past (and present) often had trouble making signifigant strides forward because of a lack of understanding for the legislative branch, its nueonces, and equal importance in the process of government.

He THINKS he's a Presidential candidate because he IS a Presidential candidate.

I agree though that many of his ideas are not the direction I personally think the country should go in.

He did show great perseverance and stepped up to the plate as a great leader during 9/11, but I think his character is limited to having to face a great disaster rather that having the courage, intelligence, and fortitude to prevent one.

He is perfect for the Republicans--not a single vote for the New York Mayor in the great midwest.

And what you first mentioned may ultimately unravel the conservative coalition the national Republican Party has banked on since the late 1970s, if he is the nominee. "Family Values" doesn't mean cheating on your wife and it won't take the Democratic nominee to bring this issue up if Rudy takes the Republican derby.

1) He learned from past terrorist attacks and equipped the first responders with the tools they needed to operate.
2) He has great family values. Both of his ex-wives and him remain on friendly relations, as do him and his children.
3) He will make a great commander-in-chief, as evidenced by his service in Vietnam.
4) He understands middle-America, and isn't one of those pro-abortion, gun-control big city politicans.

He's leading among Republicans in all the polls, and millions of Americans have said they intent to vote for him. What more do you need?
