I wouldn't say everyone. I as a race fan for fifty + years think the problem is picture yourself a race car driver. I have done that many time over, have tried it, have been apart of it and I just don't get enough. I think if you look at the IRL which I don't miss a race of there's they are only running right around 1/2 of what NASCAR runs. Now the way NASCAR is structured not to bring the new and up coming drivers but get the already fine tuned, well you have some of them moving over.
Realize too that Chip Ganssi is doing the bringing for the most part and this is his home territory the Indy type cars. He knows who will and who won't be interested in coming to NASACR. I wouldn't be against running more races I don't think. Driving around in a hot rod?shoot!!
I wish they wouldn't and concentrate on mending the CART/ IRL problem and to join back together. Run a few more races and larger fields.
One good thing though we will always see up and coming new talent in the IRL with there drivers not hogging all the glory which allows them to be watched in the lites series.

Obviously it's in the eye of the beholder. A big reason is that IRL doesn't market their package. Second, they would not relent and give MIS (Michigan) a race date next year. MIS already had commitments for 2008, IRL wanted a different date than what they always have had since their inception. So MIS told them to go pound sand.
I attended all the Champ then IRL races at MIS. Not last year or this year. This year they said 30,000 fans were their. It was more like 10,000.
Come on-only three guys won races this year. 18 cars with maybe six that can win? Danica who? Sarah Fisher is as talented a driver. Never given a chance in top equipment. Fact.

Money. NASCAR is flowing with corporate sponsorship. Open wheel has been struggling since the IRL/CART split in the mid 90's and its not going to get better until we have one series.
We will continue to see more and more guys trying to make the switch to NASCAR.

2 reasons come to mind
1- the money in nascar is alot better
2- there is no split in stock cars where half of the good drivers are running a crappy series (Champ Car) and the other a decent series.
i personally watch both nascar and the irl. i dont follow champ cars anymore and F1 has got to be the worst racing to watch on TV
