Thanks for all the responses.
All very informative. Except for photosofamber,
I asked why one hand is more dominant, not an alternate explanation for the word "dominant".
You are obviously not a very smart person.

The answer to this question elludes scientists to this day. They are fairly certain that it is not due to dominant/recessive genetics. Here's an article in Scientific American which may shed some light on the issue.

A few generations ago being left handed was considered to be a sign of the devil / evil so left handed children were punished for it and forced to use there right hand.
We know better now so over the next few generations it will even out to more like 50 - 50.
Your preferance is simply down to which side of your brain is dominant.

People have a more dominant hand because usually that specific hand they feel more comfortable with. As for why are there more right-handed people well that just has to do with genes and different traits.

The most accepted theory is that speaking and handiwork require fine motor-skills (like writing). In most people, speaking is controlled by the left side of the brain (which controls the right side of the body), so it's more efficant to have one side of th brain do both, instead of halfing it up.

lol well I guess they have to make rough copies before they get the master piece...in saying that I can happily add that I'm left handed =D (Just kidding all you right handers out there)
But my dominant side is my right, eg: I can throw a good left hook/punch but my right would hit harder, my son is left handed aswell and his dominant side is his left.

I'm weird. I'm not ambidextrous but I write and bat baseball with my left hand, and I do everything else right handed. It's crazy. I don't make any sense.

because tis all about what side of your brain is domenent. left handed people tend to be more artistic because the part of your brain that is in charge of creativity is also in charge of your left hand and if its more active then the other part youll be left handed and often more artistic.
