Because traditionally pubs have always been the focal place for a community to meet up have a gossip, and escape from the kids for a bit.

A lot of people in real life use their local and it is a place of meeting everyone it is also easier to film with a lot of people in one place.
The pub is normal the "home" to the soaps characters and we have had some great scenes in the pubs.Den and Angie divorce papers classic ect.

It's a convenient meeting place like everyone else said, but also it's usually kind of shady, making an atmospheric backdrop for characters to engage in illicit dealings, scheme with other characters, overhear information, etc. The setting helps to establish the tone of the scene.

So all the characters can meet and run into each other all the time...other places like this include restaurants, schools, health clubs, and coffee shops.

Because they are supposed to portray working class culture and the public house was always the centre of working class culture

Because soap opera stars are all alcoholics who die and come back to life and have tons of kids by everyone elses husbands and murder each other because theyre always drunk.

probably so they can get in as many characters at the one time. Mind you tho -- Pat seems to have quite a few in her house!!!! Where do they all sleep ?? She just keeps taking them all in !!!

Because then they can have just about any character there, at any time, interacting, without having an excuse as to why they would be there.
