Bought a pick-up with 6 cylinder engine and disapointed with gas mileage of 13 MPG. I just discovered that the first owner replaced the stock tires of 245-15-17 with 275-15-17.
So, im thinking this must affect the odometer as im traveling farther on each revolution of the wheel then the odometer thinks it is or is calibrated for. could i calculate the percentage gain of 275 over 245 and apply that to the mileage to arrive at the correct mileage? Was thinking i could go drive a highway with mileage markers and check it that way, but i never find the time. What do you think?

First off there is no 15 aspect tire available. You need to the read the tire sizes more carefully.
The difference in speed for 245 and 275 with the same aspect ratio, would make your speedometer about 4 mph too slow.
Go to this site and type in the proper sizes to get the real difference:

Yes, there will be a slight difference, as the 275 tire travels about 6"more per revolution than the 245 tire.

over-sized tires, in your case, shouldn't affect the odometer reading cuz your tires are just wider and heavier not higher and smaller/larger circumference than stock tires . the heavier the tires are , the more gas your car gonna use.

No, should'nt. Difference is negligible like speedometer.
