Personally, I think all the men in old lady suits are hilarious. Rickey Smiley cracks me up, so does Eddie Murphy (Sherman Sherman Sherman Herculeeeees) and Medea is so funny. Martin Lawrence too (Big Mama). The only one I couldn't really get into was Mrs Doubtfire but Robin revived the old stuff that Flip Wilson used to do...Geraldine...I think he started it all. I guess you have to appreciate that Eddie and the rest are working very hard in their films to develop multiple characters. AND they are a big leap from who they really are, crossing genders, ages, races, etc. I think that takes some talent.
Tyler Perry is a smart entertainer. Not only has he mastered both the stage and the screen but he makes us think seriously about some deep issues and still makes them funny, really funny. I also like how he usually ties things back to morals, and longstanding institutions like family and the church and overcoming hard things. His characters are really quite compicated, and not a one is perfect. I find them very believable and relateable.
If it's not your thing, don't watch. But Tyler is talented, they all are.

Tyler Perry became popular w/ his stage productions based on his character Madea.
I like him, I think he's funny. I didn't like his last movie but overall I think he's a good writer. Also I don't watch his show on TBS; I think you'll find African Americans relate to him because his character is probably a parody of a southern aunt or grandmother (I don't really know the actual inspiration behind the Madea character). His character Madea has a feistiness that reminds me of my grandmother
Also his movies show a side of african amer. life that's not normally depicted in film and his movies make money because of the following he's generated w/ his madea character

He is funny. It's original because some of his characters in his plays believe and trust in God. His plays and movies have a christian basis but it's worldly too (some people can relate to it). Because if you have seen any of his work, at the end of his plays (especially) the problems they have are resolved through God in some way, shape, or form. Maybe you may not find his jokes funny. I know I don't find Larry the Cable Guy funny, but I know people who think he is hilarious. It just doesn't work for me. So maybe you don't like his plays or his movies because it just doesn't tickle your funny bone like it does other people.

Don't worry about it, I think he's terrible too. And sooo boring! All the dumb movies and TV shows he comes out with are so old, I swear I could catch something exactly like that ten years ago on basic cable.

hes just another playwright, director who gives a little something different for a change. I think his drag character Madea made him big.
Some won't like it like yourself (and others on Answers), some find his stuff interesting. I like it.

Cause he is! He's a genius writer and we have only found him! Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it's good.
