The Golgi apparatus sorts and packages proteins into vesicles - sometimes for use inside the cell and sometimes for export from the cell.
The Golgi apparatus gets these proteins from the rough endoplasmic reticulum.

This organelle has two parts to its function. First, it acts in the modification of lipids and proteins. Secondly, it serves to store and package materials for exportation from the cell.
