In the beginning:

At the first ever England Rugby match there was trouble afterwards. Hooligans rampaged.

The police rounded them up and asked the England Rugby team to decide on the punishment.

The team said 'If they think they are so hard we will give them a game'

The rest is history.

Nobody crosses the England Rugby team.

Yes, you are right..... for rugby union.

We watched the England vs France match in a pub in Switzerland, surrounded by French supporters. There was a great atmosphere, and when the final whistle went they were coming up to us to congratulate us, and wish the English luck in the final. There was absolutely no malice at all.

Earlier on in the day we had passed a fight between to rival groups of football supporters in the street.

With rugby all of the violence is on the pitch. With football all the violence is in the stands. I believe a lot of the football violence is organised, and there are groups of so called "supporters" who arrange to meet rival groups at a match for a fight on the internet.

Wouldn't it be great if football violence was stamped out!

old phrase, football played by gentlemen and watched by hooligans, rugby, played by hooligans, watched by gentlemen. played both myself and only in rugby, both teams will line up and applaud each other off the pitch. in paper today (in the uk) when england beat tonga and samoa they had drinks with them down town. aussies probably a bit too p****d off. also in football, you hear the 'fans' booing during the opponents anthem, yet not in rugby. overall better class of supporters, although at a football match, personally do respect the opponents.

dead right. no need to segregate the supporters at a rugby match and the atmosphere is great. People go there to have a good time and its relaxed and friendly.
