just wondering how ya'll see any particular celebrity, as an example to kids or adults today. Are any good influences, in your opinion?

Thanks for the posts! I agree with the media not focusing on the good that famous folks do, and I believe many do good deeds. But then when on the news is there ANY focus on positive people or events? If teens want to be "famous", they know crime gets attention!

Actress Jodie Foster. Her film debut was at age 13 in "Taxi Driver" but she never let Hollywood influence her decisions. She graduated from Yale, continued acting , began directing, and in between has two sons that she keeps out of the limelight. She also flies under the radar, giving occasional interviews only. Actress Catherine Zeta Jones moved her family to Wales to avoid Hollywood entrapment. Nicole Kidman is another who knows how to dress and act responsibly. When Tom Crise was acting like a maniac and jumping on couches, her only comment was, " I'm very glad Tommy has found happiness". These ladies are all class acts.

My favourite celebrities don't often appear in tabloids, or at least not make headlines. My favourite actress would be Natalie Portman.. my mind is drawing a blank right now, but whenever I read up on celebrities who've been able to do some amazing charity work it's always extremely awe-inspiring.

When I read this question my mind instantly went to the bad apples, Spears, Lohan, that track star...I can't think of any good celebrities since the media likes to dwell on the bad ones.

Kristie Alley? John Travolta? Even Tom Cruise (so what if he danced on a couch while proclaiming his love of Katie?) Yeah I now the scientology thing but if thats the only thing for people to point at and it makes them good people then it doesnt come off as a minus to me either.

I think sports stars are generally more appropriate examples for society. They exhibit more endearing qualities such as self-control, determination, hard work, self-belief and positive mental attitude.

Most other celebrities with a few exceptions exhibit less appealing examples such as arrogance, self-indulgence, vanity and ignorance/carelessness of the impression their actions have on their fans.

Saying that, I think morality in society as a whole is on a bit of a downslide in general and I think celebrities are just reflecting that.
