I think its almost impossible to balance the budget if the war is going on, and fix any of the existing problems.

All of the candidates have proposals to balance the budget. The key thing to remember is that the President merely proposes the budget. Congress has to pass the appropriations bills. As such, it is important to consider how a candidate is proposing to balance the budget.

A candidate who proposes to balance the budget by proposing massive cuts in popular programs and elimination of cabinet-level Departments may have a plan to balance the budget, but that plan has no chance of getting through Congress. A candidate who proposes a mix of tax increases, holding most programs to cost-of-living adjustments, a plan for holding down medicare and medicaid costs, and a handful of minor cuts to some programs is more likely to get their plan adopted.

Obviously, accomplishing all of the possible priorities for a new Administration and balancing the budget will be difficult. If Congress and the new Administration insist on pay-as-you-go (that every expenditure or tax cut have an offsetting tax increase or cut in another expenditure), it is possible to both meet those priorities and balance the budget, but it will take a lot of discipline.

I like some of Ron's ideas but unless he has a crystal ball not ending the war in a rational manner may cost us much more in the future. Ron talks about how expensive our presence is in the world and it is easy to say bring all these people home but I have not heard him discuss what he thinks might happen if we did so. On complex topics like this any candidate that proposes a "plan" without providing Pros/Cons to the American people should not be trusted. We need well thought out plans and no plan is 100% foolproof especially when it comes to foreign affairs.

It will take time to fix the problems. He knows that. He doesn't hem-haw around. He just answers the questions.

By the way, before you say it, I guess I'm not being paid 'cause I haven't gotten my check yet. :)
Oh, those "frontrunners" don't seem to know what to do or how to do it. They don't discuss those things.......gee.

I have nothing personally against Paul, except his voting records does not match a lot of what he says. Even if Paul was elected, takes more than just one person to fix anything, I doubt Paul could take the heat and all the blame like Bush has, even though some people still think that only one person is running everything, and not all them hundreds of others in DC.

the following will not change with any top tier candidates :Illegal immigration -overtaxation of citizens - loss of property rights , corporate socialism , exporting of jobs from America - the deficit- overspending, BIG govt , the destruction of american citizens rights , devaluation of dollar , Iraq war ( dems want to manage it differently not leave that is the truth ) ,open borders and unsecure ports ,division of America -high healthcare costs (which is the true problem ) -ron paul has solutions for all of these at a lower cost to future generations and todays-

lilly I am sorry rons record for voting doesnt match what he says ? really ?because one of the reasons people are voting for him is because he has the voting record to match what he says - are you sure you didnt confuse him with romney -giuliani - thompson or mccain ? if you are unaware of what I am talking about please email me and I will enlighten you with examples -and if you want I can do it for the dem top cands also -

I have personally yet to hear a cogent, coherent, viable plan yet. Most of the other candidates talk about spending more money or how they would "More Wisely" spend it...
