Most systems have a tiny speaker that's tied to to motherboard--but that's just for system sounds (not music). To play music you need a sound interface. These are typically included on the motherboard or they can be added later. The sound interface will have a speaker jack on the back of the system where you can plug in analog speakers (and sometimes in the front where you can plug in headphones). Yes, these speakers can be built into the system monitor.

Another option is to plug into the audio jack exposed by some CD and DVD drives. Typically, these are not very good fidelity and would need powered speakers (speakers with their own amplifier) or headphones to be heard.

In any case you're going to need speakers or headphones (which are really just speakers you put on your ears) to change the electrical impulses generated by the sound interface to physical vibrations your ears can hear...

Simple, there are several different methods that allow you to connect External Speakers that normally come with all computers. If you have an earphone connection this will allow you the connection. there are others that connect via'USB and if all else fails depending on your particlar computer some have a very small speakers installed inside the cases. there are 3 or mor options for you.'

Does it have a speaker inside? I mean the actual devise that emits the sounds? Check you manuals and schematics,
if not you may have to purchase a set. The ones at the school could be a different model.

I have no idea it's going to be done. Perhaps their school's lab monitors have a built-in speakers, that's why it works.
