Just wondered, it it illegal to let off stink bombs in shops for a laugh? What would happen if you were caught doing this by the cops could they actually do you for anything? Causing a public nuisance or something? Could they do you for using noxious chemicals or something?? Any ideas??

you would be arrested for a public order offence if you were caught but back to the question why would you want to let off a stink bomb in a shop think about it would you like one let off in your house use your time better and find something constructive to do to help your community instead of being a tool

With the threat of possible terrorist attacks, perhaps using chemical weapons, such a device could cause panic and cause people to injure themselves trying to escape.
That being the case, and in light of current events, the police would take this "prank" very serioiusly and initiate severe action, including severe prison time, especially if someone were to get hurt.
Talking about bombs and hijacking in a airplane may also be "just a prank," but authorities come down very hard on those that think this is funny. Changes their minds in a hurry!

Yes it is an offence. You could be charged with Conduct Likely to Cause a Breach of the Peace.
In any case, the act of doing such a thing is plain stupid.
Whether you have a grievance against the shop or not, there is a better way of resolving the problem.
If you think this is just a 'bit of fun' please think again and more responsibly.

harassment alarm or distress, or if they are found to be threatening abusive or insulting.
or causing a public nuisance
it'd be stretching it a bit, but that would be for a court to decide, you could still get nicked in the first place.

funny this question fell into the political category.....however, I would assume that if you weren't caught you can't be in trouble...but if you were caught then no i think the cops have better things to be concerned about then a stink bomb. The only harm they cause is to your nose...lol they would just warn you and call it off as a lil' teenage prank god forbid you ARE in fact an adult because then I would suggest you get a JOB and grow up....good luck

given the fact that people are a little highly strung about the terrorist threat these days what you are planning could cause a major panic and if that alone is not a reason to deter you, you could probably get a charge of misuse of noxious chemicals thrown at you

It would be a misdemeanor, and would probably have to pay a fine unless it causes a larger danger which is unlikely.
Your best bet is to find a constructive new hobby.

Definitely you would get charged with disturbing the peace. If stink bombs are illegal in your area, then you would get charged with using them too.

I think you'd get a slap on the wrist if you were caught but who's gonna know it was you if you drop it on the floor and stand on it!!!
