I like the idea of a queen elizabeth costume because it would be very unique. You can really do it up and be very dramatic with that costume. For the fastest results you can buy a princess costume and use that dress as a base and add to it. I'm not sure how you would do the collar she's known for.............. maybe you can use that paper that pulls out as a fan. I'm not sure of the name of it but we used to have it in class when I was a kid. You pull the paper out and it makes designs/patterns and comes in different shape like latterns. If you can find those and create a circle shape around your neck, you can use it as a collar.

They look something like this http://www.funsocialstudies.learninghaven.com/articles/lantern.htm

I also like the Strawberry Shortcake costumes and believe it would be unique, creative and cute. The old-fashioned costume with the dress, stockings and bonnet. You can find them all over ebay or you can create your own pattern. I believe it's Butterick that has the vintage pattern that you can recreate for yourself. Check on ebay.

My bias is always for something feminine, so that probably lets out the court jester. Queen Elizabeth sounds great but might be too hard to make. But here's a fairly simple way to be a mermaid: At a fabric shop, buy a piece of sequined material or something similar, preferably stretchable, long enough to reach from your waist to your ankes and wide enough to go snugly around your hips. Also get about 3/8 of a yard of the stiffest sheer or shimmery material you can find, and a halter top to match the sequined material. Now simply sew the big piece to make a tube that fits your lower half, leaving enough unsewn at the bottom so you can walk or dance in it. (You might want to taper it in on the sides above your ankles, so that when you're standing still it appears to fit snugly around them.) Hem the top and run elastic a little shorter than your waist measurment through it. Now fold the other piece into a double thickness about 10" by 22" and cut two semi-circles. (This would be easier to explain if I could illustrate it! :) ) Hem and or decorate the curved edges if you have time; then gather the straight edges so that each piece fits halfway around the bottom of the skirt, with the ends at front and back center, and sew them on. At this point you have a satisfactory and recognizable fish tail to wear with the matching halter. The embllishments are up to your time, skill, and imagination!

I personally like the queen of hearts idea. An idea for it is if you have any heart shirts or coats or ANY clothing with hearts on it, wear that. Even a heart dress. Then wear a crown. It would be totally cute and very easy. If the ask, just say "I'm the Queen of Hearts!" They'll think its soo cool. Well Happy Halloween, and have fun at your dance!
