My dad always told me that "we" will only have as many TRUE friends as fingers on ONE hand... meaning 5 or less will be true blue friends.... and I agree with that... I have many ppl that I am friendly with... but only less than 5 that know the real me, my innermost thoughts/feelings/fears, etc. that I can feel completely free to just be me with... and i dont think that is a bad thing anymore like I did when my dad first told me that... we live and learn and then find out that maybe our parents did know a lil about what they were talking about lol
:)

This is such a good proverb! From experience I have found that when I have a group of friends and we all get together, people tend to pair off and then gossip about everyone -- even YOU! Too many times I have been in arguments with acquaintances over silly things like this. Now, I have 2 close friends and that's it. They each are special to me, and they don't know each other at all. I can be myself with each of them and not worry about all the catty, jealous behavior.

You can have friends to go to a game with, or friends to play cards with, or friends you know from the grocery store. Then, you can have a friend or two who would drive across country to see you in the hospital, or look after your kids when your car breaks down.
Everyone needs a certain amount of friends. How many can be depended upon in ANY situation is another story.
I say the more people you don't screw over, the bigger the possibility of having the second kind of friend I describe here.

Very much true. I'm speaking from experience. Sometimes it's essential to work on mutual relationships. Anyone with the right people skills can pull "friends" left, right and center. But only developed, meaningful bonds can really serve you.

you should trust the people you become close with. friends... what kind of friends? are they the ones that would do anything for you, give up their lives, dont doubt you, understand you and know something before you even feel it? thats a true friend. accquaintences arent friends, they can betray you. many true friends are rare. its true if you have many "friends" but the real ones then you have none

He who has many friends has none.Thats a really good qoute.I loooove it.It is better to be close to one person than to have a lot of friends and to be close to no one.The defintion of a friend is someone to hang out with and tell things to.To many friends is nothing.
