One PhD in a non-related field does not trump untold hundreds of PhDs in fields of direct correlation to the subject. Evolution may be a flawed explanation in certain aspects, but it has more substantiated evidence in its favor than anything else out there.
One of the problems that prople have with creationism is the mountainous volumes of evidence pointing to the contrary. The timeline, for starters, is off based on carbon-dating of articles found that pre-date the supposed beginnings of existence.
My biggest problem with it is the assumption of truth conferred on everything listed in the Bible. I am NOT challenging the message, what I find problematic is the blind acceptance of everything as true. The Bible (ESPECIALLY the Old Testament) is a collection of stories handed down through the oral tradition that were meant to be teaching stories about the past and the nature of God. Yes, many pieces of scripture were copied from original documents, but many weren't. Also, the Bible was first put together as a collection of works by humans, who in their formation of the collection had the opportunity to change, edit, or omit peices that did not mesh with the message that they wanted to put out. No one challenges the divinity of God, but every person of faith accepts the fallibility of humanity.
Finally, consider this - even if you choose to accept the stories of creation in Genesis as the Word of God passed down through the millenia, consider that if God did give this story to an early group of humans he was smart enough (he is the Supreme Being, you know) to realize that the complex natures of his creation and the scientifically explained details of it that we know today were so above and beyond the capabilities of early humanity to understand, then perhaps he may have given them a version that satisfied his dersires for our understandings and at the time were in a format that we could comprehend. What good does the knowledge of the complexities of subatomic structure and genetics do for a tribe of hunter/gatherers? None. A "This is the world, this is how I gave it to you, this is what I expect of you," story gave them all the understanding that they needed at the time. Maybe, just maybe, God had enough confidence in us as his creations to figure that we'd figure it out from there over the centuries.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion so leave it at that most people are going to believe what they want and its hard to change that. Such as you choose to believe that (what you stated above), and others may think differently, that's what makes our universe so diverse, also if God could change anything s/he wanted, why is there sin? I am not preaching just giving you something else to think about/ask. Also the doctor part means he has a degree and solely that yes that means that he problem very intelligent, but some people think that someone has a degree means that their smart, but look at engineers some can be as dumb s a box of rocks but that degree entitles them to a job someone may be better at without college, now do not associate this to per say a Doctor , I would not want an unqualified person cutting me open!!

Number one: Just because you have a degree in religion of any sort doesn't mean you're authorized to preach to everyone about it. You can have a degree and not even believe in it. I could go right now and get my Ph.D. in Asian Religion and not care a thing in the world about it. What does that tell you? The best people to teach members of the congregation about God is someone who truly believes and understands.
Number two: Anyone who blames everything "bad" or different on Satan obviously has something to hide. Perhaps he's hiding the fact that Evolution is real.
Number three: It's possible to believe in both God and Evolution. What are you, effing stupid?
Number four: I could get my doctorate degree in fashion merchandising and not know anything about science. Heeeey, guess what? You're an idiot.

Go with your pastor to your local Natural History Museum then have him participate in an important excavation of fossils where students and paleontologists are working an important site in your state (join an amateur paleontology club or join a current excavation with the Museum). Have him hold the fossils in his hands, then take him to the library and show him what scientists have uncovered around the world in the last 100 years or so. If after all this he doesn't believe in science and in evolution, tell him that God would have wanted us to marvel at the miracles of life through science.

If you had a problem in the field of theology, would you go to a Ph. D. in biology for help? No? Then why do you believe someone claiming a Ph.D. in theology about a biological subject? Until you learn enough to evaluate the law of evolution for yourself, render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's.

im pretty sure the pope just touched on this very subject. interesting you brought it up. the pope said, in a nutshell "why cant we belive in creation and evolution together?" and hes right! if you really belive in god, and you really belive in creation, then thats ok, because it makes sense.
i had you religous pricks that do nothing but critisize others and hide behind your religon. if i had a nickle and a bullet.......
never mind
anyway
hope this helps

Either he was joking or he's crazy.
And by the way -- MANY more people with PhDs believe in evolution than don't believe in it.

I believe that nobody knows a darn thing. They can come up with lots of theories but nothing is solid. Though evolution makes a little more sense...
just because he's a doctor, doesn't make him right or perfect!

Ask your pastor to prove what he is talking about. and how does he know? what you ought to be asking yourself is: why do I belive in truth from authority? also thank god that I am an atheist. He is a human nothing special. a Ph.d is a piece of papper it dosen't imply that who ever has one knows everything. surely you understand that.
