love is the universe. love is God. love is selfishness, happiness, sadness, peace, comfort, anger, despair, every sort of feeling you could think of
if love was only the goodness you feel in life, love would be a choice. to me, love is not a choice. it is everywhere, sometimes you see it (happiness, etc.), sometimes you don't (sadness, etc.). whether you see it or not, well, that is a choice.

Its a personal question. So my definition may not be the actual definition of love.
Although love is subjective (personal expressions); it also has some inherent characteristics that are key. If any of these characteristics were not present - then love ceases to exist
Love according to me is a commitment to a cause or a person that is beyond mere feelings, extrinsic situations & the response of its object (object of love - be it a person or a cause etc).

One would be 'the opposite of selfishness.'
Love means putting the good of those you love before yourself. Like a mother who can't stand her ex, but because she knows her children need their father, she keeps her mouth shut and tries her best to let them have time with him
But. love is not self destructive. You don't let those who say they love you, hurt you physically or emotionally without yelling and screaming and telling them they better stop or you're gone.
So, love is the opposite of selfishness, but you can't love others unless you love yourself.

i think the first step to love is respect, and the second is sacrifice.. Love is when you have a desire to protect the cherished person or thing. make sacrifices to preserve it. Be passionate about it, all this without creating obssesion... now that's the challenge !!

to do anything for that person or thing. you would never and have never felt that way for that person or thing. when they arent with you, you feel an emptiness in your soul, you cant think or function without them. love is very difficult and many arent lucky enough for love to happen to them. the best part of love is when its mutual
