It's all about cause and effect. So far, no one has ever observed a case where the effect happens before the cause. We don't know for sure that this is an unbreakable law, but so far it seems to be.
Assuming that effects can never happen before their causes, traveling backwards in time is impossible. Traveling forward is certainly possible, we do it all the time. We are all traveling forward through time right now, at a rate of 1 hour per hour. There is no law of physics which would prevent us from moving slower or faster through time, but it would always have to be forward, never backward.
I think it is possible that someone will build a device like an elevator where you step in and close the doors, and then a minute later the doors open and a thousand years have gone by in the outside world. But you could never go back.
Some people speculate that traveling backwards in time could tear the fabric of the universe and destroy pretty much everything, including all of time, both past and present. I really hope this never happens. I'm fine with knowing that I will die someday but it would be horrible to imagine every living thing being just erased, like they never even happened. This would be a billion times worse than the Holocaust.

I think time travel in to the past is possible, based on our current theories of the universe but it will take a lot of effort, energy and new technologies to make it happen. Time travel in to the future is easy and hardly worth talking about. Just get in a rocket and fly it at close to the speed of light.
Check out the 'fabric of reality' and 'parallel worlds', two good books which talk about the theories.
Going back in time wouldn't cause any paradoxes because there are many parallel universes because of quantum mechanics.

It is a fascinating concept to dream about, but dreaming about it is all we can do. Time and space are forever linked, a time machine would have to be able to rearrange the universe to have every part of it precisely where it was at any time in the past that you wished to visit. Since the future has not happened yet it would be totally impossible to visit it.

I'd like to be able to time travel, but ironicly I hope it's never invented! Probably if you were to go back and kill your dad or something you wouldn't be affected, cause you might be effecting a completely diffirent "worldline" (universe, dimension, what ever!) but I still don't think it'd be a good idea!

If it is possible in the future then it is possible now, because it is time travel. Even if time travel is invented 10,000 years from now, those time travelers could come to this time and bring their technology with them so we would have it too.

Let's hope that it will not be possible. It will be highly unlikely as the effort required is enormous. But if it is created, I will surely go back in time and kill my own grandfather at teen's age...

No. I could be wrong but there are too many reasons as to why it cannot happen.
