The Kyoto Treaty is the international treaty against climate change. 169 countries have signed it, except for Australia (and the United States) ?!

I'm genuinely interested to understand Australia's reasons for not having signed.
As an Australian, do you agree with this decision?

@Dar. soory but my question is for Australians and I can telle by the way you've answered that you're an American. Climate change is an international issue not a sovereign one.
I think that Australians can answer for themselves. My question is not aggressive in anyway.

And lastly, the USA is very good at meddling in other countries affairs (so what you say is quite hypocritical). Have a nice evening.

Apparently it's because our Prime Minister doesn't believe Kyoto will be effective, doesn't believe it's fair for Australia as a country largely run on coal (although the agreement does take that into consideration), doesn't believe in setting targets for carbon emissions and he claims that ratifying the agreement would cost jobs.
I certainly do not agree with his decision, but luckily we're having an election soon so John Howard's reign of terror is hopefully coming to an end. Opposition leader Kevin Rudd is in full support of the Kyoto Protocol.

Because we have an old, blinkered, short sighted, yank adoring, idiot for a PM. In a few weeks time that will all change and Australian will once again be able to be proud of our country and our Government.
Kevin Rudd WILL ratify the Kyoto Protocol on our behalf and we can once again hold our heads up proudly on the world stage.

I'm American , but I will give my opinion anyways as we always do. Life on earth will not end by global warming, it's just a scare tactic governments use to raise prices, climate change is normal, the planet has experienced many periods of extreme heat and ice ages, humans trying to stop it is going against the balance of nature.

Let things be and enjoy life.

Why should ANY country give other countries policing power for how they run their businesses? Even if you intend to take steps to stop a condition (as the US dropped in greenhouse gasses while many signatories did not) why meddle with sovereignity?

Look what being in the WTO is doing to the US over not wanting internet gambling. $100 billion in fines because we culturally consider some things unacceptable if access is too broad to those too vulnerable.

We have a right to do things our own way, and so does Australia.

No, I don't agree with it; we should have signed it long ago. I'm sure the reasons behind it not having been signed yet are the same as for the United States: economics.

Unfortunately, greed overrides common sense.
