If the children are younger than 5, you charge $15 an hour. Between the ages of 6 to 12, you charge $10 an hour. For multiple children, add two dollars for each child. The more children, the more responsibility because it's harder to keep your eye on more than one child. Let them know that you need to up how much you charge, point blank. Don't be shy, be assertive. In exchange for the extra pay, let them know you are planning on implimenting certain activities. If you were to observe a day care one day, you'll see it's more than just allowing children to play. Teacher's in a professional setting are actually implimenting certain developmentally appropriate activities for the children's growth of learning. See if you can check out a few books from the library once a week, or try to set up a schedule of activities. Look at the site below for some ideas. Let the parents know your plans, and that this is something you think the children will enjoy! They'll be more than happy to accept your higher charge if you do this.

I babysit for a couple who has one child and I am their first sitter ever. Their kid is 2 years old and is high energy (like most are!) and I get $10/hr. so if their were two of us, I wouldn't cut the rate in half, but maybe down to like $7/hr. Look at it this way- what is the min. wage of your state? Ask at least that or a little lower since there's no tax being taken out. If you're not of legal age to work, you can't justifiably ask any more than that!
Also what are the ages of the kids? How difficult are they? Do you have to change diapers or make them meals? Or are you just playing the whole time? Are they sleeping? Take those factors into consideration. The more work- the more money you should receive.

RE:
How much money should I charge for babysitting?
My neighbor and I babysit kids together in our neighborhood. People think this is great because there are two of us. People normally pay us each $5 an hour. I'm 14 and my friend is 12. Is this the right amount of money? We babysat 3 kids together for three hours and we each got only $15 each. I...

For babysitting, I would say at least $5 an hour, and $1 per extra child. When you get to be experienced after a few years, I would start charging $10 an hour.

Rates depend on where you live; ask around what others get.
The fact that you baby-sit together, means splitting the rates.
You can't expect people to pay more for the two of you.
So 3 kids for 3 hours was $30 for the parents; that seems fair.
