What is one of Nathaniel Hawthorne's writings, and what was it's theme? How did it illustrate nationalism?

I'm suppose to find one thing they wrote and name it's theme, and how it illustrates nationalism. Number 3 is all i have left now. Can somebody please help me? thank you to anyone who does.

3. Hawthorne wrote the Scarlet Letter
which reflects the Puritan colonial mindset
of judging against sins using public shame
But I think he was more critical of the hypocrisy
not supportive. I found a reference that he was

which could represent part of early American history

1. I associate Emerson most strongly with Unitarian
Universalist values, which present some of the concepts in Christianity but expressed in more universal/secular/humanistic terms such as "right of conscience" and "respect for democratic process and world community"
This is not Emerson directly.
But if you can find some of his writings that speak to a more "pluralistic" approach to religious or moral standards
that might represent American tradition of religious freedom
