Pretty damn much. ^_^ Big Oil just pulls so many strings, in terms of dictating policy it's not even funny. We could have had hybrids and more fuel-efficient cars on the road back in the 1980s, but Big Oil and the automakers had other ideas in mind, and had the Mass Media under their thumbs *doing* the Jedi Mind Trick of "You really *want* an Enormous SUV, don't you?"

So am I saying individuals can't do more? Hardly. There are a lot of things people *can* do, like recycle more, use bicycles and/or public transportation more, and so on...

But. What individuals *can* do is too often limited to the choices *on a list* that Corporations *dictate* to them. We couldn't have bought hybrids back in the 1980s, they weren't *there*. Ditto with compact flourescent light bulbs. Ditto with recycling more than aluminum cans--most cities didn't even *have* paper recycling or meaningful battery recycling, never mind sorting and recycling plastics.

It's rather like the U.S. elections coming up. People aren't *going* to be allowed to elect Obama for President, are they? Nope....people are hell-bent on shoving the weakest, most messed-up candidate down our throats they can, and that means Ms. Clinton is a shoe-in. Again, it's a case of a system that's been *bought and paid for* by the Corporations, by the CEOs, by the One Percenters, forcing Bad Choices on Ordinary People because the *Good* Choices might pose a *threat* of some sort to the filthy rich.

I can see it coming. Hell, *Stevie Wonder* can see it coming.

In a sane, rational world, we *really should* and *must* hold Big Oil responsible, directly *to account for* both Global Warming and the Rise of Big Terror.....

But our world is the *opposite of* rational and sane these days. So what we get instead is a Mass Media *tap dance* instead, a bunch of *damn lousy commercials* made by Big Oil companies to *sedate* and deceive the public, yet again.

You know, like the recent Chevron spots that hype up their track record on *geothermal* energy, saying that some *seven million* people are now living off of their geothermal energy designs....

But....The United States is a nation of *300 Million* people, living on a planet of *6.5 BILLION* people and counting. Way to go on that 2-odd-percent of the American population though! Way to go on.....not even *being* a drop in the bucket *World wide*.

And the sad part of it is....if we *wanted* to, we could replace petroleum-based fuels within a *year*. Really. We could.

There's *more to* the salt-water burning design than what the Media wants you to believe. The energy output *DOES* in fact exceed what's going into it. The flames burning from these experiments burn at *3,000* degrees Fahrenheit.

But no.....Big Oil and their paid-for *Hacks* want to shout it down, and have by and large succeeded.

Like I said, the world is *hardly* rational or sane these days. It's all about protecting the rampant greed and sociopathy of a *very* isolated and *very* rich few, at the expense of the *Whole Entire Human Race*.

So it won't happen. We're screwed. Sorry. But I do hear you though. I wish people could *and would* do more to rein in their Damn Companies *BEFORE* they get us all killed *dead*.

Thanks for your time though. Have a Star!

Why would corporations produce goods and services that consumers do not want? Corporations that did that would go under very fast.

If not for the consumers' demand for products that contribute to global warming, the corporations would not produce them. Responsibility is shared.

Get real!!! Why do you think large corporations are responsible for global warming? Why not sue nature? Erupting volcanoes contribute tons to our atmosphere & contribute to global warming. Want to sue the cattle? Cows contribute dramatically to global warming whey they create methane gas when they fart. Want to sue yourself? You contribute when you drive a car, heat your home, start a campfire, and so many other things you do. A few of the largest corporations are Wal-Mart, Microsoft, Google, etc. How are they responsible for global warming? Did you think about your question before you asked it?

well, I must admit that I find it odd, when all of these "global warming members" talk about everything individuals could do to help, they never mention "big business".... PLUS, the fact that it won't make one bit of difference if only the USA works to control pollutants.
It will take a "GLOBAL" effort to change anything.....

Personally, I think it is much ado about nothing.... This planet has gone through weather pattern changes about every one hundred years, warm decades, cold decades, happen.... It's a fact....

We're all responsible. Large corporations only exist because we keep buying their goods and services. We also elect leaders based on TV appeal rather than their abilities and qualifications. We won't actually start doing anything about the pending climate change until our entire way of life starts to collapse and people start dying in large numbers. Politicians are incapable of seeing beyond the next election so they won't do anything until they absolutely have to.
