His performance has been worse since the World Cup 2007, only 3-4 half centuries made so far as an opening batsman after the WC, & also against some small teams.
Ofcourse he is an innocent chap who lost his house & his belongings because of the tsunami,
but when it comes to sport those personal things should not come to the scene & should not be seen too. They play for the Country.
If he doesnt perform well then the team management should not hesititate to replace him for some days.
An opening batsman's duty is to score more runs quickly as much as possible before the first powerplay 10-15th over without getting out.
So that even if he gets out it would be a pillar for the rest of the other players to maintain that run rate & make a good score at the end of the day.
But this fellow he play's all the ODI matches like a test match along with Sanath.
So now lately after losing several matches cus of the opening batsman's only Mahela the captain have realised and thought to replace him & include D.Perera to the squad as an opening batsman instead of Upul Tharanga.
This should have been done earlier, it is a good decision taken by the captain lately.
Now they should send Sangakkara & D.Perera as opening batsman & send Sanath in the middle order untill he gets him self formed up.
I think Sanath is good in facing spinners than pace bowlers now a days.

Yes, this Upul cricketer messed up Sri Lanka since 20-20 & into the first 4ODI match-ups VS ENgland. S.L. Cricket dosen't need a lacker but a smacker of cricket balls. Therefore, S.L did an terrific job for droping him off the Lion squad machaa. However, without him it looks like S.L. won.

He is out of form and he is having a surgery on his legs. And Sri Lankan cricket board said that after recovering from that surgery he will play for Sri Lanka-A.

He's had a bad patch of form but i'd have give him another game and just told him to play some shots. But they decided they wanted Pererea who could have bowled some off spin if needed.

he didn't perform well....
He has been given 4 matches in the series to proof him self...
but he failed to use his chances...
So its a good move to give a chance to a new comer...
But it didn't do any tricks...
However Sri Lanka won the final match by D Fernando's magnificent bowling performance....
