question-overheating means that the coolant comes out of the pressurized radiator cap, is this what it doing? Or you looking at the gauge on the dash and it is running hotter than normal? Is the electric cooling fan coming on when the coolant temp reaches 210 degrees? What spec's are you looking for? More info is needed

Coolant could be 50% distilled water, 50% antifreeze. Antifreeze by potential of itself does not cool that nicely. i might drain the equipment and replace the thermostat. Then get a chemical flush from Autozone, flush it out, replenish and bleed the equipment so there's no air bubbles. it truly is an undemanding pastime. If it nonetheless overheating, then water pump is probable undesirable.

I would drain the system and replace the thermostat. Then get a chemical flush from Autozone, flush it out, refill and bleed the system so there's no air bubbles. That's an easy job. If it still overheating, then water pump is probably bad.

A key to diagnosing the problem is whether it overheats on the open highway or not going 60 mph. If not, that means the air flow through the radiator and engine at highway speeds is sufficient to cool the engine and it's only overheating at hot idle in stopped traffic. Then you want to check your radiator fan to make sure it's coming on to cool the radiator when there's no road air cooling it like on the highway.

I have a 1997 Escort and overheating was caused by faulty fan switch.

could be the thermostat. it's housed in the mounting that connects the hose to the radiator. only cost about 5 bucks and very easy to replace. check online for specifics.

check to make sure you still have a belt driving your water pump, but if all these things have been checked, it might be a blown head gasket or cracked head. do you have water in you oil? or losing water?
