My 30 year old daughter's Christening gown has hand sewn lace at bottom. The gown is pure white, but the lace over the years has yellowed somewhat (not a lot). I used ritz whitening and something for yellowing, but it is just a few shades off WHITE! Does anyone have a sure remedy, because my daughter is having a baby girl and I would love for her to wear her mommy's gown. My daughter thinks the difference in color is too obvious, so I really want a sure fire fix! Thanks to anyone who can help!

If the Mrs. Stewarts doesn't work. I know you can try the fresh lemon juice and waterbath on the lace, and put it in the sun to remove the stains. This works great on stained antique tablecloths. As a last resort you can carefully remove the lace to clean it as the gown itself may not withstand all the washings. Hand stitching it back on isn't that difficult. If it doesn't come clean then just remove it, and or replace it. Natural yellowing comes with age and fibre content and sometimes cannot be removed. Good Luck

Sprinkle some bicarb soda over the stain and upload slightly white vinegar to make a paste. it is going to fizz yet that's ok. go away it for an hour or so and rinse off. Repeat if needed. Neither of those products will do any harm. while the garment is dry wrap in blue tissue paper to dodge yellowing.

You really have to be careful not to damage the lace, of course. The off-white probably can't be remedied, but try something mild like a hydrogen peroxide and water solution (1/2 and 1/2). Leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse. Repeat, if needed. If that doesn't work, it probably can't be fixed.

You might try Oxyclean and then hang the dress out in the sunshine to dry after washing.

If I were your daughter, I wouldn't care that it's yellowed. I think it's a lovely thing to wear the same dress. Maybe she will change her mind.

I work at a cleaners. You will need to take it to your local dry cleaners. Ask them to soak it in the sodium.. They will know what I mean..
I just got done doing two wedding dresses that were over 45 years old, by soaking three times in the sodium..

It may never match. I only use dishwasher detergent. All stains. Pre-soak for a couple of hours, then wash anyway you want.
