Today I am doing a little housecleaning and am washing my bed-covers. I have a a quilt-like feather cover that goes under my sheets and over the mattress. I looked for tags but there were none. I'm pretty sure it can machine-wash but I was wondering what cycle and for how long to wash it.

best to use a commercial type tumbler washer and use non detergent soap like woolite in a gently type cycle. Dry on low heat with some tennis balls / shoes, something to beat the feathers back to the proper loft

Honestly the dry cleaning is the best answer. However, I have down comforters and generally they are 100% cotton covered. I wash mine (King Size) in the washer. I do have the extra large capacity washer. Then if it's a nice really hot day I have hung them outside to dry. You do have to fondle those feathers when it comes out of the washer and if drying in the dryer on low every 20-30 minutes you have to shake it out like crazy and move the feathers..(as they bunch up together no matter what you seem to do for them) It takes many cycles to dry it so be forwarned, and plan for it. The tennis balls are an excellent tip as well. At least 3, or those great blue soft spikey dryer balls will help. Yes the cotton cover can shrink a bit, use cool or just warm water to wash, and on low to medium to machine dry. I really didn't notice that much difference in the size when I put it back on the bed. Good Luck

You have a feather bed. Take it to the laundromat and use one of the large front loaders. Be prepared for 2-3 hours of dryer time. Use 3-4 sneakers to break up the clumps. Don't waste your money on a dry cleaner. They wash them too, with chemicals. Some of these chemicals can damage the feathers.

What you're describing is a feather bed. You'll need to take it into the dry cleaners. There are several types of down filling, some can be washed & others can't. If you don't know what type it is take it to the dry cleaners. All downfilled items can be drycleaned, few can be machine washed.

In matters like this, I prefer to turn to the experts. If they mess it up, you have recourse. If you do it and mess it up, you're out of luck. I'd take it to a dry cleaner's.

I think what you have is not a quilt but a featherbed.
