What I frequently heard from the political pundits in the 2000 election was how much more of a likable person George Bush was than Al Gore. Of course the Republican party had a field day with it.
Now here we are seven years later and Bush's approval ratings are near Nixon's Watergate ratings. Hmmmnnn..... isn't funny how crappy leadership can make a guy less likable ? Gore is now more popular than ever.
Don't you think it's time we elected someone that can actually do the job next time instead of someone "you would like to have a beer with ?" I think you would be amazed at how much you would come to like an effective President.

We have a very unfortunate element of 'anti-intellectualism' in our American culture. We don't trust anyone who is too smart, who seems to know what he's doing. This seems especially true in politics. The Republicans have attacked every Democratic presidential candidate I can remember as being too smart, an egghead, therefore not to be trusted. This was true of Gore, also of Michael Dukakis, Bill Clinton, John Kerry, even as far back as Adlai Stevenson in the 1950s.

Republican candidates have pretended to be dumber than they are--and I think Bush did this too. During his campaign in 2000 he pretended not to be able to pronounce certain words, and he spoke with a fake Texas accent that disappeared once he got into the White House, but comes back when he speaks in the South.

(You can listen for this yourself! During the campaign he would leave off the 'g' in words ending in 'ing'. 'I was thinkin' we should be doin' somethin' . . . ' Once he was president, though, every G was there. Except when he speaks in Texas or anywhere in the South. There are other things but that's the easiest to notice.)

GW Bush had always been a popular guy. In fact that was his job in all the businesses he worked in, to schmooze with customers. Everything came easy for him all his life and he never seemed to understand that this was because of who his dad was. So naturally he thought being president would be just as easy.

Yes, I think Gore would make a GREAT president. God forbid we should have a president who actually has some idea of how to do the job! 8^P

Read the article in this months 'Vanity Fair' on Al Gore. It seems the reporters had something against Mr. Gore...most probably because they were not in the same intellectual class as he was, while 'Good Ole Home Boy' G.W. was just so much fun to be around! I mean think of all the people who would have missed out the fun in Iraq had Al Gore won!
What still surprises me, is that George W. Bush got elected a SECOND time...and this after everyone knew they lied about Iraq, and so much more!

I think Gore is being seen as more likable now due to his campaigning for our Environment. Even though he has been actively involved in this for many years it isn't until recently that he seems to be connectingwith the ,people. Bush on the other hand came out of the gate as the guy who has our best interest at heart,I don't think people give the vice-president's seat much thought. I mean he does come across as a "YES" man. I have been following him awhile now, only due to his extensive knowledge of the enviorment, I believe he really has more presence to himself, than the people ever realized. I mean I never really gave him much interest until I came across him by accident on a talk show. Pretty sad, huh.! It wasn,t until then did I realize that this guy could have done a better job than Bush. Seven years to late, I quess.I think people want to see our president as one of "guys"and if that's so we believe he will be more attainable to the people. In reality if he wasn't personable he wouldn,t get the votes. So next time maybe we shouldn't judge on what is put out there but what hidden. I hope this makes sense.

We have become a nation of very shallow people. Just look at what is popular on TV. It is junk. We are more interested in someone's looks, sex, someone else's religion, and other stuff that really doesn't matter. Instead of being interested in issues and things that matter Americans are more interested in gossip, dishing dirt, or butting into someone's private buisness. We need to get back to minding our own business and be concerned with politeness, and courtesy, and caring about others without butting into all their intemate business.

Approval ratings are based on JOB PERFORMANCE not likability.

How many approval rating polls has Al Gore been a subject of. If you ask my opinion, Al Gore is still as mundane and boring as he was in 2000. More so in the fact that he has been caught in more lies.

People liked Bill Clinton, as a President (remove all of your emotional ties) he wasn't that effective. People liked Jimmy Carter.... NOT EFFECTIVE.

People liked John Adams, definitely not effective.

Likability does not equate to effectiveness. Sorry this isn't a high school popularity contest.

A lot of people, like me, can't stand Gore; he isnt any more liked than Bush. But that's because he just looks for attention, preaches false statements, and is just plain annoying; not because the news paper and the TV say this and that about him.

Al Gore has a passion for what he is popular for, I'm not so sure he would have been any better than GW in the Whitehouse. Gore might have more of an edge over him in the greenhouse. Of course that's all speculation. {-D

When you are in a position of leadership people are ALWAYS more critical of you. ALWAYS.

"Whatever you do, you need courage. Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong."

Leaders are not always "liked" because they have to make tough decisions that are sometimes not all that popular.

I STILL think GWB is more likable than Al Gore.

Likeable? We'd really be up a creek if we had someone who just cared about being liked when he made the tough decisions. You people don't understand leadership, or what we are fighting for. Likeable may help win an election, but it isn't a basis for leadership.
