Uh... just another day off for me.
If I had to think of it...
...the day Columbus doomed the Indians (Native Americans) to their dreary death and the upcoming of several hundred Indian Casinos.
Celebrate: Go to an Indian Casino and help give money to the Indians.
(Btw -- I am part indian so I don't want to hear any crap, thanks ;) )

i don't celebrate anything. i hope i have the day off, but usually don't because no one likes to celebrate it anymore. i think we all know it recognizes the day Columbus 'discovered' America; in some states it is now called Discoverer's Day. i think it's ok to celebrate the spirit of discovery, if not the specifics. so for me it represents the kind of adventurous soul that might set out on a voyage of discovery. i don't worry about the rest of it.

Columbus discovered Cuba by mistake.
Maybe Sir Walter Raleigh Day would make more sense.
Anyway, huzza! for top country USA and all those who gave it birth (apart from the aboriginal inhabitants who got robbed - so they are not celebrated, bad luck but they have casinos now.)
