becuase the chick said they did not want to be in the same CD changer as Reba and Toby. i.e. they did not want their fans to listen to other country music. They were real jerks about it and never apologized...they were completely in the wrong and since i never really liked their music anyways it does not bother me that they arnt on the radio.
and while freedom of speech is one of my favorite things about america and it was not the bush bashing that upset me, it was that thye did it overseas. when you are in another country you are representing america and should respect it. i just thought they handled the situation poorly.
(im not saying they arent talented)

I don't know what your grandparents are so upset about. They were attacking them. They were attacking the Bush administration. President Bush was not at all offended by them or their remarks. He said " we live in a free country where freedom of speech and opinion are part of the fabric of our nation and the right to every American citizen. He also said "I am not offended by them standing up and speaking their minds and enjoy their music." So there you have it from the man himself, the object of objection.
Personally, I feel the Dixie Chicks rule! They are what America is all about, freedom, choice and independence. As individuals, they are very uniquely special and as a group, the are mesermizingly awsome. Their willingness to speak out about important issues helps to define their music. They are like a hybrid in the country music scene, i.e. a little bit country and a little bit rock n' roll with a tad of Bob Dylan mixed in = Pretty Wonderful Stuff!

Natalie Maines original statement was off handed stage jabber, and she (as does every American) has the right to speak freely about what ever she wants to.....
I think there are alot of people that just listen to the press and 'the hearsay network" and dont give the Chicks their due. I think alot of the dust up with TK and other country stars was just publicity...
In the long run (looking back on the out come), the girls in the Dixie Chicks have become stronger, better at their craft and have produced a wonderful album of music, that may have never happened if Natalie would have just shut it up and sang!
Praise the Lord for rebels, and I thank our forefathers for the one remaining(?) freedom, to speak our mind - whether we think first or just shoot off our mouths.
I guess you could say that I like these girls!

Your Grandparents aren't "Ready to make nice, not ready to back down..."
Everyone is entitled to their opinions. That includes The Chicks AND your Grandparents. I just think what's done is done. Everyone, at one time or another, has put their foot in their mouth. People make mistakes and say stupid things. The difference between The Chicks and us regular people is....there isn't a camera and microphone recording our every move. I decided I don't agree with what they said 100%, but I like their music. I keep it separate. That incident gave me pause for thought though....that could be a good thing.

I crack up laughing at those who want to boycott the Dixie Chicks.
I like their music and several of their songs.
Though I do not agree with WHERE and HOW they expressed their opinions (at an audience in another country who paid to see them PERFORM), they have every right to their opinion.
I don't care what their opinion is, but they should not have said that in another country nor at an audience who went there to see them sing and dance, they did not go their to hear their political opinions.

I like their music but hate all the politics involved. Just sing! That's what they started out doing, they just need to keep that attitude, remember where they came from and leave everything else alone. they do have good music and great harmony together. It's all about the music.

Okay, you can think the Chicks are noble for their "opinions". The truth is, the other two girls were embarrassed at first and tried to get Nathalie Maines to shut up. They apologized right away. However, two weeks after that England concert they were posing NUDE for Entertainment Weekly magazine, wearing only black ink buzzwords written all over their body in paint. Is that how to "apologize"? That's my definition of "desperate attention hoes."
I would not otherwise care, except for that I'm a 20-year military guy (retired) who would NEVER choose a forum like that to express my opinion of the war. In the middle of a country concert in England where you are expected to perform, you shoot your mouth off about the Commander In Chief on the soil of our biggest supporters in crisis - foreign and domestic. How many US troops and citizens do you think made that special trip to see a slice of home life in England and got that slap to their American faces?
The number one song that week in America was the song the Confederate Floozies had often performed - "Travelling Soldier". Apparently their feelings for that song are only as a meal ticket.
Again, you can say they are rebels, but they didn't plan on it. Nathalie Maines has a big, thoughtless mouth, and the only way to save face was to purposely run the other way with it for the Dixie Chicks to survive as a band. Granted, I actually liked "Not Ready To Make Nice", but I was VERY disappointed they didn't take the rest of the album and retrace those paths that made them popular before Maines put her foot in her mouth and tried to convince the rest of our nation she likes the taste of leather.
You can hate the war as I do, and there are avenues to discuss this - in interviews, debates, writing Congress, even staging concerts supporting this cause. This was not what the Dixie Chicks had in mind for England that day, and it's just ludicrous to think of them as rebellious as a team. They're just trying to sell records. Period. Then, and now. Like Ice-T doing a love song, you have to take their "new sound" with a very large grain of salt - or gunpowder.
Toby Keith and Reba McEntire have so much more credibility.

I personally do not care for them since they disdained their country roots after the Bush-bashing incident, saying they didn't want their music to be "limited" and intimating that if people listen to other artists (country artists or any other genre of music), then they couldn't be Dixie Chicks fans. I decided they're "right"....if being a fan of the Dixie Chicks means I have to listen to their work EXCLUSIVELY and never listen to another artist(s) again, I will choose not to "limit" them to my money.

Actually, the chicks did apologize but took it back after Bush kept bashing them.
I think they are fantastic women - they stand up for what they believe in, as they have repeatedly said, they are not against the troops, but rather against people dying without a clear reason for it.
As well, the chicks have fantastic vocals and instrumental talent. I applaude the fact that they haven't backed down from their beliefs. I also applaude the fact that while Natalie is the one that made the "comment", Marty and Emily have stood behind her 100%.
Way to go chicks!
