Hear a lot about physical causes but what about learning and conditioning?

The "cause" of homosexuality is probably nothing more than a variation on theme of what "causes" heterosexuality.

There is nothing special about it. You do not need a freak accident or an epic nature-gone-a-muck story to explain it.

Most gay, lesbian and bisexual people will tell you that homosexuality is not caused by family and social conditioning, but rather that individuals are born gay. I'm inclined to agree with this view, because I can remember having crushes on girls from the time I was about 5 years old. Plus, I am the only one of the three children in my family who is gay, and we were all brought up in the same way, so I highly doubt that it has anything to do with my upbringing. However, one's upbringing etc can affect their likelihood to come out. For example, a gay person who has been brought up in a very open-minded, accepting family and community is more likely to come out that someone who has been brought up in a conservative, repressive and intolerant community. But as for the cause of homosexuality itself, I can't give a definite reason for it. All I know is that we were born that way.

From what I read and hear you are "born that way", used to be people were shunned or made fun of, still are, but more opened the door by coming out and facing the world and owning it so to speak.

But really why is it so important that everyone know your sexual orientation. I am told they know through body language they recognize each other, sometimes they are wrong I am sure, but this is what is out there. I just don't get the whole gay pride parade and all, so what, your gay, is it attention getting for some I think it is.

If learning and conditioning had anything to do with it -- then of course everyone would be straight -- since the culture has overwhelmingly stressed heterosexuality for thousands of years -- and yet there have consistently been homosexual people.

There is a myth, condemned by every professional association in the United States (psychological, psychiatric, counseling, medical and pediatric), that homosexuality is caused by the types of things you are discussing. the intent of the group forwarding that myth is to make money by claiming to those least happy with the way that they were made that they can "recondition" them, if you would, as heterosexuals. They really can't of course, but people who have learned to hate themselves enough (due of course to heterosexual conditioning) will pay money for years to try.

Kind regards,

Being born gay is the only thing that I know of that causes gayness.

I don;t believe that environmental factors (i.e. learning and conditioning) have any significant effect on a person's sexuality.

If it did, either I'd be straight, or my brother and sisters would ALL be gay...

I'd show you to the Focus on the Family website, where you can find all your "facts" that you are looking for, but I can't bring myself to do it.

You don't become gay. You are born that way.
