First because parents did their best to limit our imagination when we were kids…
It was so unacceptable to have imaginary friends, see angels and fairies or other less popular creatures.
Then school taught us to be pragmatic and believe only what our 5 limited senses perceive.
Later on we had to deal with older kids having their imagination already limited; by the age of 12-13 just before puberty our imagination was already programmed towards thinking about future education and professional occupation. By the time we are out of college our imagination is limited to what others expects us to think in order to become aligned with the general population (a job, a wife/husband, kids, a house, a car and so on).
We are taunted all our life that imagination is a bad-bad think and it’s best to be down to earth.
We are not allowed to imagine because imagination is a danger to those who rule our lives under fear and control.
I say to all ‘keep on imagining… imagine a peaceful world…imagine all people living in harmony…imagine you can get everything you desire…imagine everyone getting what they desire…and believe and expect your imagination to be manifested into your reality.

I think imagination is limited to the knowledge one has, and the creativity one has.
If you can put two and three together and get a new idea, from the source of knowledge, then you have an imagination.
The more you restrain yourself, from putting the numbers together then the less creative your imagination will be.
The results of limiting a persons imagination is not really a problem, we are normally satisfied with the imagination levels we each individually chose to have.

Where is the evidence of people limiting their own imagination? You cannot know what someone WOULD have produced IF they had used more. So you cannot know they have not already produced what their imaginations are capable of.

Being from a poor family and a person who has had to struggle his entire life, I would say that people limit their imagination because they are trying to merely survive! When the temperature inside your house is in the 60s or even 50s, you don't have the time or energy to waste on imagination. Survival, one day at a time, is the thing.
Life IS exciting and challenging; but, the problem is, it is drugery, doing the same old same old, day in, day out, no money for fine clothes, no money to eat out, no money for vacations.
Drugery will weigh you down, almost suffocate you.

I think it is perhaps people are not concentrating 100% on the topic.

Our imagination is vast as we all know.
Only with 100 % concentration on our subject , that the imagination will come.

And sometimes, it is out of what we can do to expand our limitation. It is not what we want to limit, it is that we are not really concentrating enough.

For a simple example, you may try to draw a picture but you cannt concentrate , then how the flow of the imagination comes to your mind?

Why? Is the 1 million dollar question!

I would say from my experience imagination does open many hidden doors makes you look ahead of time and also shows you the reality of things!
But to many People are scare to look at & face reality!

Imagination is the gateway too see whats right and wrong!

But the resold of not having any imagination is clear the Future will not look to good if people block there imagination!

One way that people limit their imagination is when it comes to unhealthy thoughts. For instance, lots of people when standing at the edge of a cliff or on top of a building imagine themselves jumping off. Other people envision jerking their car off the road, into trees, off of bridges and such but of course never act on it. It's a good thing, obviously, that people can limit their imaginations in this way and not act on these compulsions. People with dark imaginings sometimes turn into murderers and rapists.

GOOD imagination, on the other hand, should be limited as little as possible. It's sad but most parents slowly kill their children's bright imaginations without meaning to, simply by indoctrinating them into their culture. Parents, allow your kids to express themselves as freely as possible, even if it's in a way you've never done yourself! I asked my mom for an art easel when I was 2, she encouraged my art as much as possible and I thank her for that every day as I am free and confident in my expression of imagination as an adult. I think most people are afraid to be perceived as different so they limit their own expression. A few of us thrive on being unique though, and don't give a rat's a** what anyone else thinks. :)

We limit our imagination because of fear of rejection. We dont want people to see how we think because they may not think that way.People want to be like everyone else without realizing it.They give up there imagination and originality just to be like someone else.Someone that is probably much much more boring than whats going on in there head.

I don't think people "limit" their imaginations intentionally. External factors like other people's opinions, the norm, society, the very inevitable "they" make people so self-conscious and this prevents them from thinking outside the box.
