If you're too different from your peers you will be singled out and teased/tortured. A harsh lesson, but one that proved to be true. She didn't teach it to me intentionally... I was smart. I went in to Kindergarten already able to read, and one day the teacher said I couldn't play with the other children because I was too smart. She said it as a joke, but it really upset me at the time and I remember hiding under a table because of it. But when I think back to it now, it was a very important life lesson. Unfortunately, by singling me out that way, she left me open to years of torment by fellow classmates for being too smart, and for being different. I actually had people threaten me with physical abuse if I didn't help them with their schoolwork.
Kids should be encouraged to learn, and shouldn't be singled out and tormented just because they push themselves beyond their peers for wanting to learn as much as they can. It can effect them even into adulthood. It can even turn them off learning and make them into complete idiots. My brother was also smart beyond his peers, however he learned to hide it, but still got tormented by peers for being different. Now he pretends stupidity just so he doesn't have to do stuff, and he's well into adulthood.
