On Britains and British Commonwealth countries' coins - Canada for example, the monarch's head currently faces to the right, and it alternates with each successive ruler. So the next king or queen will face to the left, as the last one did.
I don't know about other countries' coins.

Line up all the coins from the quarter to the penny side by side. You'll see that Lincoln faces his back to everyone besides just being on the penny. It's apparently a well-known thing within the black community that Lincoln is presented as a "traitor" in the coins.
He is largely accredited for freeing the slave and he gets assassinated.

Ask someone from a masonic lodge. There really is a reason for it. And a good ole Mason could tell you what that reason is. But chances are they will tell you one reason, and hide the true reason. It's just the way they are.
Why a Mason you might ask? Because they are the government behind the Government.

Here's another interesting fact. On Canadian coins, you flip (or rotate) them side to side to maintain the facing side in an upright (top at the top, bottom at the bottom) position. In this manner, the backside is also upright. On American coins, you flip them top to bottom to maintain the facing side in an upright position. In this manner, the backside will actually be upside down. This flip orientation also applies to backprinted brochures - Canadian brochures flip side to side to continue reading the backside, American brochures flip top to bottom.

Great question, and it brought out the usual conspiratorialists. My guess is that, like many other things in our culture, minters followed traditions of the past - back to the Ancient Greeks and beyond.

Lincoln was self-concious about his left side. Once he was accused of being two-faced. His reply: Sir, if I was two-faced, would I be wearing this one?
