Usually if there is spotting, cramping etc..,
then they will do an early ultrasound..
I was spotting at 9 weeks and got an ultrasound .
at 10 weeks dear there isn't really anything , like the baby is so tiny .
I got one done at 16 weeks and found out the gender.
found that I have a low uterus .
now they are going to do another one ..
And because ultrasounds are so expensive, they don't do them all the time,,

The primary reason for an ultrasound at 10 weeks is to date the pregnancy when a woman doesn't have regular cycles. Women who have gone through fertility treatments also have early ultrasounds for a variety of reasons. A woman with a high risk pregnancy may also have early ultrasounds, although there is no data that this helps in any way. There is really no other medical reason to have one, so your insurance shouldn't have to pay for one. Most cities have ultrasound facilities where you can pay to have an ultrasound done 'for fun.' Costs you money, but you will have your chance.
Yes, it's true that some doctors do an early ultrasound on all their patients. Doesn't happen at my clinic or the insurance companies would cut them off for unnecessary expenses.

Your doctor may feel you not an "at risk" candidate, so you don't need the ultrasound so soon. It can something as simple as age or as more important - moms health - that requires the test. Also, for women that have irregular periods, the Dr may want to get the exact age of the fetus to know how to proceed. She may say my last cycle was 2 months ago, but based on the doc's observation she is more like 4 months pregnant, etc, etc.

There are a lot of reasons people have ultrasounds. Usually early u/s are done to determine the due date. Some early u/s are done early if a woman has a history of miscarriages or other complications during pregnancy. If you are pretty sure when your LMP is and you do not have a history of complications during pregnancy, your doctor will wait til 20 weeks to determine how the baby is developing, and to determine the sex of the baby if you want to know because that is when the baby's organs have all developed.

its just how your doctor feels. I have had 4 pregnancys and with my first 3 i didnt have an ultrasound until my 4th month (20 weeks) and then we moved and i had a new doctor and i became pregnant again and the doctor wouldnt see me until I was 8wks along. So I went to my doctor visit and she did an ultrasound on that very first visit. I had never had a ultrasound with a machine that they insert through the vagina but thats what my doctor used and we discovered i was having twins! how neat huh? i could imagine going till my 4th month not knowing i was having twins. So like i said ...it's up to the soctor i think.

My doctor said he wanted to do one at 10 weeks so that he could get an accurate due date. But I've had about 8 ultrasounds throughout my pregnancy because of birth defects in the family and because I got in a car accident.

Every Doctor is different and some insurance companies will only pay for 1 or 2. I'm 23 weeks pregnant and will get my 3rd ultrasound next week.

Why do doctors keep insisting ultrasounds should be a routine part of prenatal care when the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists conducted a large study and found at best ultrasounds do not improve outcomes and generally increase the rates of unnecessary tests?

The reason that people have ultrasounds earlier, or later is because each pregnancy is different. Just as each doctor is different.

it must be that the numbers are off and which could ensue if (a) the toddler is in a confusing region or (b) in case you have an unusual formed uterus. An occasion may well be in case you have a tipped uterus--the measurements can come out somewhat funky. confident, there's a probability something is erroneous, I won't youngster you, in spite of the indisputable fact that this is plenty extra possibly going to be purely nice.
