Actually, Bure's goals per game ratio is significantly higher than Gretzky's.
However, as a previous poster mentioned, as age takes it's toll on the body, goal scoring goes down.
Bossy is still the greatest goal scorer in my mind
1. MichaelBossy 0.762 goals/game
2. Mario Lemieux 0.754 goals/game
3. Pavel Bure 0.623 goals/game
4. Wayne Gretzky 0.601 goals/game
5. Brett Hull 0.584 goals/game
6. Bobby Hull 0.574 goals/game
7. Timothy Kerr 0.565 goals/game
8. Richard Martin 0.561 goals/game
9. Phillip Esposito 0.559 goals/game
10. Maurice Richard 0.556 goals/game
Best Active Player
13. Jaromir Jagr 0.521 goals/game

I completely agree with Player44. Bure was more speed vs. natural scoring talent. Gretzky is by-far the most elite as far as goal scoring talent. Not to take anything away from Bure, who is great, but a lot more one-dimensional than Gretsky.
18 50 goal seasons to catch the Great One. No one will catch that in our lifetimes.

I don't think so. Bure relied on speed to get his goals. As he got older his speed would diminish and he'd score less goals. Most of Gretzky's goals were early in his career as well (early enough anyway). Even snipers like Hull and Shanahan who had some great years aren't even close to catching the goals record. For someone to beat it they would have to have 18 50 goal seasons. That's a little bit ridiculous and unlikely that anyone will catch that record anytime soon.

Wayne surviving over 1400 games itself should be the metric that we compare. Pavel like Gretzky was priority #1 on the ice for the defenders. Wayne hanged in there while Pavel quit.
If you want to have a better illistration you should see how many goals Gretzky had after 702 games. I am sure it is higher as Wayne was a god when he was with the oilers.

Gretzky was good, but there was an unwritten rule in the NHL at that time. No one touches Gretzky. When he was on the ice he pretty much had the run of the thing. Take his body guards away (Semenko, McSorley and so on) and let him take hits like Bure did I think Wayne would not have scored as many.
This is not a put down on Wayne, he was indeed a great one but just my observation and opinion.

First of all, learn to spell. Gretzky is spelled with a Z, not a S.
Secondly, while the numbers indicate that Bure has a slightly better goals per game average than Gretzky, it doesn't dismiss the fact that Bure was overrated.

Even though he scored 92 goals in a single season ... which still stands as a record ... strange as it seems I don't think Gretzky was thought of as a "goal scorer" or sniper, like Bossy or Bure, during his career.
Thanks for the stats "Like I'm..."
