You'd have to prove that you have mastered the curriculum, school standards, district standards, and state standards for that grade.
The goal of each grade, so to say, is to be able to complete a list of standards that the school district and the state government complete. If you can complete those before getting into that grade, you could be considered for promotion beyond that grade.
However, there are many factors that go into skipping a grade. These include social factors (how will this impact you when your friends are not in the same school as you, how will you be at a new school), emotional factors (could a sixth grader really handle the amount of work and added responsibilities given to you in seventh grade), and the ability to transition.
Many of the students we have in our school are slightly above their current grade level, but that does not mean they get promoted. We as the teachers differentiate the content to fit their individual needs.
As confusing as this will sound, just because you know how to quickly solve a math problem, or can read two grade levels above you, does not mean that you have mastered a subject or have an outstanding deep comprehension of what a concept or subject really means. It is very difficult to test this. But, if they can test it, best of luck to you.

You have to be so far ahead of the class in 5th grade that your teachers and parents think that 6th grade would be a complete waste of your time.

keep on failing and stay in 5th grade for about 7 years and then they will kick you out of school, that will make you skip 6th grade and get your G.E.D or give the teacher $100

if you get high grades in all subjects, by 98~100% (A+), you will be given a preliminary test by your principal. This prelim test is a kind of examination if you can cope up the subjects for the 7th grade schoolers. curricular activities are counted too. if you passed the test, then you will be promoted to 7th grade right away.
*i'm not quite familiar with other school system but we have this kind of promotion in our school when i was a student.
<>with regards to having new classmates, it didn't give me much burden as i was well-known in that school for both students, teachers, staff, etc. because of my mother's job nature in that area. my late-father was a building constractor too of the school. so as my cousins/relatives who are government officials and police officers.
