Usually after getting their shots they will run a slight temp... but I was told anything over 100.3 rectally you need to call the doc. You can also try an external way of lowering his temp by taking off some clothes or put him in a LUKE WARM, NOT COLD, bath... you dont want to keep him bundled up because that will raise his core body temp and thats is dangerous. I would call the doc first and start trying to get the fever down by the bath or stripping him out of some clothes and ask the doc what you should do. Getting tested for lead may just be standard, they never tested my daughter for lead, but who knows... calm down it will be ok. Good luck and hope baby boy feels better soon.

Low grade fevers are common after shots but with a fever that high and the motrin/tylenol not helping, I would definitely take him to the ER. Good luck hun =)

I have been a mom for 28 years to 4 kids and I have provided child care in my home for 20 years. A fever is a worrisome thing but does not necessarily equate an ER visit without other symptoms. Shaking while having a fever is normal. It is a natural body function. Try giving him a warm (not too hot) bath. Dress him in lightweight layers, perhaps just a diaper, t-shirt, and a sleeper. Avoid over-dressing him or wrapping him in too many blankets. How is he acting? Is he smiling, is he playing or does he seem lethargic, sleepy, cranky? How he acts is actually much more important than the numbers on the thermometer. Is he drinking? Is he having wet diapers? If he is behaving rather normal but has a fever, I would say you can contact his doctor for reassurance, but there is no need for the ER. Fever and crankiness after shots is extremely common. Save the ER visit for if he becomes lethargic, refuses to drink, and is inconsolable in his crying. I have experienced fevers as high as 104 in my kids and only once did we have to visit the ER. It happened when my youngest daughter was 5, she began to hallucinate, become agitated, and wouldn't drink. The first thing they did was take off all her clothes except her underwear then they gave her a professional dose of ibuprofen. After about 3 hours of monitoring with additional dose of Tylenol, she came out of it enough to eat a popsicle and a couple hours later we went home. They never did figure out what happened with her - all the tests came back normal. I had been a mom for years when that happened and I was scared to death, that feeling never goes away regardless of how old your kids are when they are sick. I suggest contacting your doctor's office first before going to ER. 102.4 is high, but not dangerously so.

Yes you should go to the ER. The temperture is high and the shaking sounds scary. In addition to taking him to the ER I would double check the recommended dosage on the tylenol. Mine says to only give it every 4 hours - not 3.... Babies can overdose very easily on tylenol and cold medications... please double check that you are not giving him too much or too many daily doses.
I hope you son is okay. Please go to the ER and have him looked at. Reactions to vaccines can be very serious. Good luck and God Bless

ER right away.
It sounds like he is headed for febrile seizures.
Make a note about this happening so soon after his vaccinations and beware that it could be worse the next time...
I do agree with the poster (sevenofus), however, anything like this happening after vaccinations is a different story. Your baby was injected with numerous known human carcinogens and toxins, and this is the 3rd time. Each vaccine reaction usually worsens so you may want to re-consider doing it at all, or at least have the shots broken down into singles.

I would probably head to the ER. Was he shaking as in having a seizure? When their temperature rises fast they can have a febrile seizure. But first and foremost you need to figure out what is causing the fever!

if you go to the er they are just going to give him tylenol or motrin to. when my daughter got her shots her fever got up to 103.4 so i took her in at 2 am and they did what i was doing there really isn't anything more they can do. also give him a cool bath it works wonders. he will cry cause it will feel very cold to him cause hes so hot but it'll work,

I would take him to the ER, better safe than sorry, especially with baby. his fever could also prevent him from keeping the proper fluids, they may need to hook him up to an IV, take him in for sure, if you want call your doctor on call first, but I bet they will recommend you take him in.
