Well, I won't go so far to say he was the best person in history I will say that in my lifetime John F. Kennedy has made a huge impact world-wide. So to me, it would have to be a person whose influence was far-reaching and his was.
Just the excitement, committment and his extraordinary message excited the world and galvanized everybody and it's still felt today.
In every country around the world there is something named for JFKennedy. How many people can you say that about?

Greetings fellow 'time traveller'. My answer is, "Me". Why? Because whilst I have been travelling forward through time, whist leaving history behind Me, since the day I was born, I have not managed to cause a single war, historical dilemma, threatening act or extinction promoting event in over 50 years.
Let's face it, it is either Me or the usual choice of lame answers about historical characters, each of whom had a dark side. The question said "best". And I would have to be the 'best' out of these contenders. Toss a coin, You or Me. I call 'Tails'.
Napoleon was a war monger.
Gandhi started off life as a Lawyer.
Washington owned slaves.
Jesus was a story teller.
Borat? A fictional character designed to make money for it's creator.
Da Vinci designed weapons of war.
Alexander enslaved half of the world.
JFK....Vietnam ring a bell?

Probably Buddha.
He was a prince and gave up his material wealth.
He was a pacifist, and did not believe in owning a bunch of material possessions, but unlike Jesus, he was actually rich first, so his lifestyle represented a real ssacrifice.
Most importantly, he conceived the "Golden Rule" (do unto others as you would have them do unto you) 300 years before Christ did, thus inspiring the most important concept of Christianity.
No Buddha= no Jesus Christ
So since he represents the IDEALS of 2.5 Billion people, and by all accounts never did any harm to anyone, he gets my vote for your question.

first, define best.
it could be a combination of different personal traits, but i think that best is all opinion. you look up to people mostly because you admire or respect certain aspects of their being.
so, whoever you look up to most, i think, is the best person ever. To you. no one can be the best. i just don't think its possible.
but that's only me.
this might not make sense, sorry, but I'm only 15. I'm no philosopher or historian. you decide what you want.

The Duke of Wellington. The epitome of the gentlemanly ideal. He thrashed that most despicable tyrant of his generation, Napoleon. And later he abolished the tax on beer.

Well obviously if you are talking about the BEST person as in good, then it would be Jesus. If you are talking about the COOLEST (aside from Jesus) it would be Alexander the Great. Or possible Leonardo da Vinci because he was brilliant but my vote still goes to Alexander.
